Today members of the Brogo Brigade came together for their monthly training session, with new recruits learning fire fighting techniques for car fire suppression, water relays and draughting.

The team worked together to perfect these techniques and successfully contain the situation.

At the end of the session, the team took a moment to carry out an after action review. Sharing tactics and ideas to assist in preparing for the real thing!

If you would like to join in on the action, message us via facebook or check out the rfs website for more information.

Residents of Bega Valley – Awareness

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will continue important hazard reduction burns in the Bournda Nature Reserve area, near Wallagoot, and the Yellow Pinch Dam area near Wolumla.

As part of this weeks planned operations, a helicopter will be working around Moncks Creek and Yellow Pinch as fire is brought down to established control lines. The aircraft will be operating with a bucket and undertaking water drops in the area.

It’s important to note:

The fires remain within planned containment lines
The use of aircraft and water drops is a planned and controlled part of the operation
This work is being undertaken to reduce future fire risk and protect local communities
You may see smoke, hear aircraft, and notice increased activity in the area today.

We appreciate the community’s understanding while this important work continues.

🚨 Escaped Burns on the Rise 🚨

Over the past week, crews across the district have been called to multiple escaped burns.

If you light it — you own it.
You are responsible until it is completely out.

With winds picking up, what starts as a simple burn can turn into a serious incident fast — putting your neighbours, property, and firefighters at risk.

Fines may apply if your burn gets out of control.

❗ Stay with your burn at ALL times — no exceptions.

Don’t be the reason crews are called out.

🔥 Burn smart. Do it right.

✔ Check conditions before lighting
✔ Never leave it unattended
✔ Have water and tools ready
✔ Make sure it’s fully extinguished

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.
