And that's a wrap!

Last week, the State Training Centre hosted the final Cadet Basic Firefighting 1 course for the year.

Throughout the course, our cadets learned about the different types emergencies the CFS responds to, the factors that influence fire behaviour, and the principles behind how our pumps and firefighting appliances operate. They also gained an introduction to road crash rescue, structural firefighting and hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents.

During the practical drills, they developed valuable firefighting skills, including:
β€’ Draughting operations
β€’ Setting up a controlled hose lay
β€’ Replacing a damaged length of hose
β€’ Using portable fire extinguishers during night-time live fire training
β€’ And an understanding of response processes.

By all accounts, the cadets thoroughly enjoyed the experience and, as many of them put it, "learned heaps!"

If you're a cadet, or know a cadet, aged between 16 and 18 who hasn't yet completed their Basic Firefighting 1 course, keep an eye out for next year's course dates.

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone involved in preparation and delivery of these courses. In particular, our incredible volunteer trainers, who generously give up their own time, often taking leave from work, to help develop the next generation of CFS firefighters. We simply couldn't deliver these or any other courses around the state without their dedication, commitment and passion.

If you share their passion for training or would like more information on how to get started, please reach out to your Regional Training Officer or get in touch with the State Training Centre ([email protected]). We'd be happy to discuss the opportunities available and help you begin your training journey.

Thank you to each and every one of you!
