The CFS State Training Centre is situated at Brukunga in the Adelaide Hills just 35 minutes from Adelaide via the south-eastern freeway. This rural area offers an ideal environment for large and small group training. Brukunga is surrounded by the natural beauty of the flora and fauna unique to South Australia. The Training Centre has an excellent accommodation area and classrooms in an ideal setti

ng which is conducive to both relaxation and learning. Training is delivered in a number of areas from firefighting, to road crash rescue and HAZMAT to ensure CFS volunteers are trained to deal with any situation that may arise. The State Training Centre is available for hire for meetings, conferences, seminars and training courses. The CFS State Training Centre has excellent conference facilities, air conditioned training rooms provide comfortable conditions for effective theory instructions and can be used for any type of presentation, conference or seminar. Facilities include audio visual equipment, light pro imaging and amenities. The CFS State Training Centre offers high quality instructors and facilities, including air conditioned training and teamwork rooms, on site accommodation, outside practical areas and catered mess facilities. 🗓 This program is delivered over three weekends and is designed to develop capable, confident and functional leaders who can operate effectively within a Level 2 IMT environment.

📖 Participants build on existing knowledge and are challenged through practical, scenario-based activities that reflect real incident conditions.

📢 SCBA Update – Important Information for All Members

SOP 10.5 – Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) has been updated, with the minimum cylinder pressure increasing from 170 bar to 250 bar.

As a result of this change, the following documents have also been revised and are now available:

🔥 Fire Ground Practice (FGP)
• FGP 8.1.1 – Donning SCBA
• FGP 8.9.1 – High Pressure Test
• FGP 8.9.2 – Low Air Warning Whistle Test

🛠️ Skills Maintenance Drill
• Skills Maintenance Drill No. 3 (Dräger Apparatus)

All personnel involved in the use, maintenance, and testing of SCBA equipment are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these updates and ensure they are working to the latest procedures.

There are currently vacancies on the upcoming AIIMS Situation Officer course.

ℹ This course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the role of Situation Officer within an Incident Management Team (IMT).

This is a great opportunity for members looking to progress into Incident Management along the pathway of Level 2 Planning Officer.

🔒 Pre Requisite training,
- Course in AIIMS (22612VIC)
- Suppress Wildfire
- AIIMS Ground Observer

🗓 Course Dates:
Weekend 1 – June 26th – 28th
Weekend 2 – July 3rd – 5th
Participants are required to attend both weekends, including the Friday nights.

🚨 HazMat Course Nominations Open 🚨

The requirement for trained and capable HazMat personnel across the state continues to grow, however a number of brigades are currently experiencing capability shortfalls in both operational response and advanced detection capability.

To support brigade readiness and maintain a safe and effective response capability, nominations are now open for:

☣️ HazMat Operator Course
📅 4–5 July 2026

🔬 HazMat Advanced Detection Course
📅 21–22 November 2026

These courses are critical in developing members who can safely operate at hazardous materials incidents, support brigade capability, and strengthen regional response capacity.

Members interested in progressing their HazMat knowledge and operational capability are strongly encouraged to nominate through the appropriate chain of command.

We’re pleased to announce that the Breathing Apparatus Operator (BAO) course has officially been upgraded from Version 5.1 to Version 6.0!

This latest update brings a range of improvements designed to enhance the learning experience and better prepare our members for operational environments, including:
• Updated and enhanced course content
• Refreshed training materials
• A brand-new online pre-course to support learning before you arrive

Already started your online pre-course? No problem! If you’ve completed any units, your progress will be transitioned across to the new version, so you won’t lose any of your hard work.

This is a big step forward in strengthening capability and ensuring our people are equipped with the most current and effective training available.
