Job Done! Wildlife and naturalist groups joined together to save habitat on Toowoomba's doorstep that is not only home for Koala but a complete ecosystem of precious plants and wildlife. This is a victory worth savoring, and an inspiration for all those battling to save habitat throughout our State and Nation. Toowoomba Council has decided to SAVE REDWOOD PARK!

Before it’s too late - The National Koala Conservancy

The National Koala Conservancy is the concept of people living in Bryamaroo, Balgowan and Acland Districts on the Northern Darling Downs who have seen their once prolific and thriving Koala population reduced to rare and endangered remnants. The proposed Conservancy lies adjacent to the Bunya Bio Link project of the Darling Downs Environment Council. A protected wildlife corridor stretching from Kleinton near Toowoomba's satellite city of Highfields through to the Bunya Mountains will allow for genetic diversity and assist recovery of Koala numbers. The Conservancy will encompass this area and will also encompass land formerly devoted to coal mining in the Acland District. Habitat already exists in surrounding areas, however populations have been diminished with Industrial activity and road trains.

The proposal is for a State funded centre for Koala care, habitat redemption and learning centre. The vision is for community co operation to protect and replenish Koala food trees, strategically control dogs, traffic and other causes of Koala mortality, and to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured Koala, all the while offering the Queenslanders, Australians, and overseas Visitors the opportunity to meet Koalas in the care of the centre, and also to spot them in their former abundance in the surrounding area.

The poposal involves no resumptions or co ercion, but will rely on the cooperation of all in the Acland District, and those in the footprint of the Bunya Bio Link.
