AFAC has released the Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for spring 2026 with fire authorities predicting a heightened risk of fire across northern and southeastern NSW, south-east Queensland, northeastern Tasmania, parts of WA, SA and Victoria, and large parts of the NT.

Read here: https://www.afac.com.au/public-resources/seasonal-bushfire-outlook-spring-2026

AFAC CEO Rob Webb said: “This outlook highlights a heightened risk of fire across several parts of the country, driven by a combination of dry conditions in the east and increased fuel loads through parts of central and northern Australia."

"The variety of risk factors across different regions reinforces the need for communities to understand their local conditions and prepare early."

The Seasonal Bushfire Outlook is an expert analysis of bushfire fuels, past rainfall, temperature, and climate outlooks undertaken by the Bureau of Meteorology and fire agencies across Australia.

Meet our wonderful Rita! ❤️

Rita has tirelessly supported Bullengarook CFA for many, many years. A much-loved local and our dedicated Treasurer, she recently received her 25-Year Service Medal in recognition of her incredible contribution to CFA.

Congratulations, Rita, and thank you for everything you continue to give to our brigade and community.

It takes a community to build a CFA, and people like Rita are at the heart of ours. 🚒❤️

There are many ways to be part of CFA — not all of them involve getting on a fire truck. You might be surprised where you could make a difference.

🔥 SUNDAY TRAINING

This week’s Sunday training session saw our members working on their structure firefighting skills.

🚒 The session focused on ‘low structure’ training — external structure firefighting — including arriving on scene, getting set up within 100 seconds, and advancing the hose to the door ready for internal crews.

💦 We then moved onto hydraulic ventilation, learning how firefighters can use a jet of water directed through an opening to help draw smoke and heat out of a structure.

Regular Sunday training gives our members the opportunity to practise these skills, work together as a crew and be ready when it counts.

📸 Here are a few shots from this week’s session.

People who are over 65 or who have a disability are more likely to be affected by disasters, including home fires and bushfires. In Australia, 62% of the people who died in home fires between 2003 and 2017 had a disability.
CFA (Country Fire Authority) and FRV (Fire Rescue Victoria) are working together to reduce these unacceptable statistics.

💧 Is your water pump ready for fire season?

If your firefighting pump has been sitting idle over winter, now is the time to give it a test run.

Before fire season:

✅ Start it and make sure it runs properly.
✅ Check fuel and oil.
✅ Inspect hoses, fittings, O-rings and seals for leaks or damage.
✅ Check the suction hose and strainer.
✅ Make sure it primes and delivers a strong flow of water.

Don’t wait for a high fire danger day to find out something isn’t working.

Test it now. Service it if needed. Be ready. 🚒

🚨 Australia-wide AusAlert Test Today 🚨

Don’t be alarmed if your mobile phone makes a loud alert sound 2pm today if you are in Victoria.

Today, Australia is conducting a national test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system. Compatible mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches across the country will receive a TEST emergency.

📱 Your device may:
• Sound a loud alert, even if it’s on silent
• Vibrate
• Display a message clearly stating that it is only a test

This is not a real emergency and no action is required.

The test is an important step in ensuring Australia’s emergency warning system is ready to quickly alert people during events such as bushfires, floods, cyclones and other major emergencies.

Please let family, friends and neighbours know about today’s test—particularly anyone who may be startled by the alert.

🚨 Product safety recalls - fire risk 🚨

🚗 Volvo XC40 2020-2021
Due to a manufacturing defect, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may be defective. As a result, it could cause a thermal overload leading to a vehicle fire when the vehicle is fully charged.
Full recall: https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-006647

🚗 BMW 2 3 4 and 5 series plus X3 X4 and Z4 2020-2025
Due to a manufacturing defect, the starter motor solenoid switch can experience increased wear that could cause an internal short circuit. If this occurs, the driver may be unable to start the engine, and in the worst case, the overheating can lead to a fire during vehicle operation.

🚗 BMW 330e iPe, 530e iPe and 740 iPe 2015-2020
Due to a manufacturing defect, moisture may be able to enter the starter motor causing corrosion and result in the engine not starting. Additionally, this may cause a short circuit while the vehicle is in operation or parked, potentially leading to a vehicle fire.
