Nichole Lubcke's 'Hold Me' is a collection of 100 tiny porcelain vessels, each one different, each one formed through slow, repetitive process that embeds touch into the work itself. For Nichole, the act of making is tender and deeply personal.

A year in two parts. A mere array of shapes and colours.

Gisela ZΓΌchner-Mogall took over 2,000 photos in 2025. Then she dismantled them.
Each photograph is stripped back to a thin stripe of colour, the image dissolved, the year reassembled as pure form.

SWB26 / The Memory of Trees
The South West Biennial extends across six partner venues throughout the south western regions, and over the weekend, Heloise Roberts and Moira Fearby's 'The Memory of Trees' opens at the Margaret River HEART - Nala Bardip Mia.

Extending on their work showcased in the South West Survey, the exhibition traces entangled geographies, where place becomes a site of shared belonging that invites viewers to remember what is precious, what is worth protecting, and to sit with the thought of losing it.

Crafted from drawn and painted plywood tiles, the artists' collaborative landscapes, with their modular construction, allow for both cohesion and dissonance, mirroring how collective and individual experiences of place diverge and merge.

Applications to be completed online by 21 June 2026.
EOIs will be assessed by a BRAG selection panel to ensure fairness, quality and a diversity of practices.

SWB26 / BREATHING SPACE
The South West Biennial extends across six partner venues throughout the south western regions, and this Saturday, Marcia Leonard's 'Breathing Space' opens at the Painted Tree Gallery in Northcliffe.

Extending on works showcased in the South West Survey, this exhibition brings together paintings, drawings, mixed media works, and lumen prints developed over time. The works are presented as a gathering of remnants - traces of process, decisions, and material shifts.

Installed with space between works, the exhibition allows for pause and openness. Together, the works consider how traces accumulate over time, and how what remains can hold both presence and absence.

23 May – 28 June 2026
Painted Tree Gallery - Muirillup Rd, Northcliffe
Open daily, 9am – 3pm

One landscape. Two artists. Three panels.
Visual artist Carly Le Cerf and sound artist Jean-Michel Maujean share how 'Dwertup, Morning Song' grew from a shared attentiveness to place - its rhythms, its light, its traces.

The three-panel triptych places viewers inside Dwertup in Fitzgerald River National Park, a site of extraordinary ecological significance, and one that has since been devastated by fire.

In this interview, Carly and Jean-Michel talk about the slow process of returning to a place until you truly understand it, the particular richness of making art inspired by place, and what it means to have the opportunity to see and interact with other artists.
