Last weekend our Cadets had a camp over at a fire station.
This is always a huge hit with the Cadets.
We were very fortunate to have Bunbury Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service come along to do some training with our Cadets.

Cadets were able to be involved with scenarios on a car wreck to remove doors, use various techniques to access a casualty that may be trapped in a vehicle.

They also assisted with removing the entire roof from the vehicle. Another technique that can be used to extricate a casualty.

Cadets thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon of hands on activities and learning new skills.

A big shout out to the Volunteers from Bunbury Volunteer Fire & Rescue, that gave up part of their weekend to come along and provide this great opportunity to our Cadets.

Our Cadets went along to the Bunbury Fire & Rescue Station on Wednesday to find out a little about the day in the life of a Career Firefighter.

The Cadets thoroughly enjoyed their visit, a very informative chat with Phil and Travis and looking through their station.

There’s a good chance we have a few Cadets that might want to make this their own Career path in the future.

This is one of the focus points for our Cadet program. Exposing our Cadet’s to various Career options to help inspire and encourage them to look at the many options and opportunities that are out there ☺️

A big Thankyou to Phil and Travis for their time and making us all feel welcome and sharing your knowledge with us.

Emergency services are being ‘significantly drained’ by firefighters being ‘regularly’ called out to fight bin truck fires by people still putting batteries in their kerbside bins.

Our Volunteers train all year round to keep skills and knowledge fresh. Teamwork is also very high on the list of priorities, knowing your crew and that they have your back is so important.
At the end of the day, we all want to go home to our families safe, happy and with a great sense of achievement.

Last night's Cadets training at our Brigade was a resounding success, perfectly timed to beat the chill with some engaging indoor sessions. The Cadets made impressive strides in mastering our Radio networks, swiftly grasping the use of radios, pro words, phonetic alphabet, call signs, and radio etiquette. They also honed their map reading skills using 6-digit grid referencing, demonstrating quick uptake and adaptability. With these essential skills now in place, our next session promises to be an exciting opportunity to put theory into practice, taking these new abilities out into the field.

This June, we're joining DFES and communities across Australia for Smoke Alarm Action Day – because only working smoke alarms save lives.

Take a few moments today to:

✅ Test your smoke alarms
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Check expiry dates (most alarms last around 10 years)
✅ Make sure everyone in the home knows what to do if an alarm sounds

Working smoke alarms provide early warning and can make all the difference in an emergency.
