INTERSCHOOL CHESS COMPETITION
Last Wednesday the Norville Chess Club had fifteen of their members compete in the Term Three Wide Bay North Interschool Chess Competition which was held at Shalom College.
For the first time the Primary School Competition was split into two divisions with our Norville 1 team - made up of Rocco, Kyron, Ben and Ari competing in the Primary A Division. This meant they had to play against the best teams from the other schools. They performed admirably on the day and finished in sixth position - only a couple of wins out of the placings.
In the Primary B Division we had three teams competing. They all finished around mid-table which was a fantastic effort considering many of them are new to chess this year. A special congratulations to Eli for achieving enough wins to earn himself a merit ribbon. Our other highest scorers for the day were Emmett, Rocco, Ari, Rose, Henry, Kai and Charles. An extra special day was had by Abel and Charles as it was their first Inter-School competition.
We now continue on with our own Norville Chess Competition for the next couple of weeks and then into next term. Our final Interschool Competition will be held on Wednesday October 21 at Avoca State School.
