Over the last few days, some of our members supported police rescue in the search for a missing person near Windellama.

We worked together with other SES members and the RFS in an extensive line search, covering quite a large area.

Helicopter, police dogs and other resources were also used in the search. The missing person was found, albeit with a heartbreaking outcome.

Dan and Jodie recently attended large animal rescue operations (LARO) training in Goulburn.

They spent time looking at the theory before some practical sessions outside on scene management, manual handling and securing and lifting an animal.

They also had several sessions with Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Goulburn, learning about approach, restraint and relocation using 6 of RDA's horses.

Many thanks to RDA Goulburn for allowing our members to experience handling real horses - it makes such a difference to the training.

One of our members, Jodie, attended the Community Engagement Conference at the SES state headquarters Wollongong from 22 to 24 May.

It was a great opportunity for her to network with other units in regard strategies they have used successfully to engage their communities.

She's looking forward to applying some of these strategies in Bungendore.

Our unit was busy over the weekend with a range of training and fitness activities.
On Saturday morning, we ran fit for role assessments for our members. People who operate in the field in tasks such as storm damage and flood rescue have specific fitness levels to meet.
On Saturday afternoon, Bungendore members joined the Inland Capability Unit for training on updates to our computer dispatch system.
On Sunday, some of our flood rescue operators did flood boat training, to make sure their skills stay current.

It's amazing how many different volunteer roles there are in NSW SES. If you're interested in finding out how you can help your local community, go to https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer

🍂 With autumn coming to an end, the trees are dropping their leaves.

🍂 Are all those beautiful red, orange and yellow leaves falling on your roof? They could end up blocking your downpipes next time we get heavy rain.

🏡 It's time to check your gutters if you have trees near your property.

WOW!

It’s time to put together an orange outfit that might not earn Miranda Priestly’s approval, but will definitely win over our volunteers - because May has arrived! 🧡👠

WOW Day (Wear Orange Wednesday) is on May 20th this year and we’re gearing up to celebrate and thank our volunteers on the day!

Please do NOT move at a glacial pace - send in your message of thanks today at wowday.com.au

Today we had a total 15 members helping with road blocks for the ANZAC Day dawn and main services. 2 members also laid a wreath.
And thanks to Bungendore RFS for their support.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

The things we do to support our local community are many and varied.
Last week we helped Wildcare with an animal rescue.
Tomorrow we're making sure Bungendore village centre is safe for the ANZAC Day dawn and main parades, together with Bungendore RFS.
