From 7pm tonight, Bunyip CFA will be out training in the area of Iona and St Josephs Church.

You may see or hear us! Flashing emergency lights, sirens, or horns will be operating.

Change your clocks - Check your Smoke Alarm! 🏠🕚

CFA and FRV are reminding residents to use the clock change as a safety check-in. Did you know more than half of serious house fires start in the bedroom or living room?

Here’s what to check:
🔥 Alarm in every bedroom and living area? ✅
🔥 One on each level of the house? ✅
🔥 Installed on the ceiling, at least 30cm from the wall? ✅
🔥 Interconnected so they all sound together? ✅
🔥 Using a 10-year long-life battery? ✅
🔥 Replaced within the last 10 years? ✅

To test: press and hold the test button until it sounds.

Clean with a vacuum once a year, and replace standard batteries annually.

Early end to Fire Restrictions 🔥

The Fire Danger Period (FDP) has been amended for the pictured municipalities, and will now be lifted as of 1:00am Tuesday 7 April 2026.

Once the FDP concludes, burning off is permitted, subject to Cardinia Shire Council local laws and restrictions.

Forecasts for tomorrow, Tuesday 17th Februrary are firming up potentially Extreme Fire Weather conditions, especially across our local area.

Traditionally, the active part of the Gippsland Fire Season starts in February. Given the extensive dry period, we're seeing the full effects of days like this significantly spiking Fire Danger Ratings - and significantly increasing the potential consequences if a fire was to start.

Now is the time to prepare.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Central, Wimmera, South West, North Central and West & South Gippsland fire weather districts for Tuesday 17 February 2026.

No fires can be lit, or be allowed to remain alight, in the open air from 12:01 AM until 11:59 PM.

No fires can be lit or allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM.

🟧𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄 Fire Danger means fires will spread quickly and can be extremely dangerous.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐨:
- Review your bushfire plan and ensure your property is fire-ready.
- If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
- Reconsider travel through bushfire risk areas.
- Leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option.

Ensure you're prepared for extreme conditions. The safest way to survive a fire is to be away from the area when it starts.

We’re only at the end of January and have already seen 5 x Statewide Total Fire Bans declared.

Given the significant drought over the previous 18 months, and the major availability of fuels to burn, these will become a common tactic to minimise any starts this Fire season.

The Can I, Can’t I series from CFA help you to determine if the activity you are wanting to do during a Total Fire Ban (TFB) is prohibited, requires restrictions, or permits to occur.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 27th January 2026 has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban (TFB) for the whole State of Victoria.

This is expected to be one of the hottest days on record for a large part of the state. Whilst winds won’t be as significant as Friday 9/1, the extreme heat will lead to significant Fire Danger

Tonight Bunyip CFA joined our Victorian Emergency Service colleagues in observing a minutes silence at 7:01pm tonight, as a symbol of solidarity with the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

Our thoughts are with the victims, families, communities and first responders who have been impacted by this horrific attack.
