🚢 More ships than usual will be visiting the Burnett Heads river this month!
With increased vessel traffic, it’s important for everyone on the water to stay alert and give large commercial vessels plenty of room.
⚓️ Give way to large vessels: Commercial ships have limited ability to turn, manoeuvre or stop in narrow river channels. Always give them the right of way.
⚓️ Never block the channel: Keep clear of the middle and deepest parts of the river, where large ships need to navigate.
⚓️ Watch your wake & keep your distance: Large vessels can create significant wakes and water suction, which can affect smaller boats. Slow down, stay well clear and maintain a safe distance.
⚓️ Monitor VHF Channel 16: If you’re unsure of a ship’s movements, monitor VHF 16 and stay alert to surrounding vessel traffic.
🛟 A little extra awareness goes a long way. Let’s keep everyone safe on the Burnett River this month!
