In response to ongoing community concerns regarding dangerous driving and hooning activity, City of Moreton Bay’s Public Safety Team has deployed a portable CCTV unit at the intersection of New Settlement Road, Deception Bay Road and Old Gympie Road, Burpengary.

This is not just a standard camera setup.

The system includes advanced numberplate recognition technology capturing all approaches and angles of the intersection, day and night. Vehicles involved in illegal street racing, burnouts or dangerous behaviour can be identified and footage is provided directly to police for enforcement.

Residents have made it clear they are fed up with the noise, danger and reckless behaviour in the area and Council and QPS are taking action.

Thank you to residents who continue to report incidents and help keep our community safe, please continue to report all hooning call Policelink on 134 666 (13HOON) or contact your local police station.

07/05/2026

Tonight the Queensland Government’s Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) team is holding a community information session on the proposed North Harbour Priority Development Area (PDA).

Just to clarify, this is not a Moreton Bay City Council consultation session — the PDA process is being led by the Queensland State Government through EDQ.

A PDA (Priority Development Area) is a planning tool used by the State Government to fast-track planning and development in areas considered important for future growth, housing, jobs and infrastructure. Once declared, the State Government takes the lead on preparing the planning framework and development scheme for the area.

For North Harbour, this process will help shape what future development may look like, including things like:
• housing and density
• infrastructure and transport
• environmental outcomes
• open space and community facilities
• employment and marina-related opportunities

The session tonight is an opportunity for residents to:
✅ learn more about the proposal
✅ ask questions directly to EDQ
✅ understand the PDA process and timeline
✅ provide feedback early in the planning stages

📍 Morayfield Community Hall
298 Morayfield Road, Morayfield

🕔 Tonight — 5pm to 7pm

The proposed Development Scheme itself is expected to go out for formal public notification and submissions in 2026, however tonight is an early engagement opportunity for the community to better understand the vision and process moving forward.

Thanks to the Greater Caboolture Chamber for another great “Pub Chat” event tonight and to Buddy Brewing for hosting 🍻

I was joined on stage with Ariana Doolan MP, Mark Ryan MP, Cr Brooke Savige and Councillor Tony Latter to answer questions from the floor and give updates on what’s happening around our city.

These events are just one of the many opportunities the Chamber delivers each month to support and connect our local business community. If you’re a local business owner, I’d strongly encourage you to get involved and consider becoming a member it’s a great way to build relationships and help strengthen our local economy.

Because your council strongly believes in transparency, I believe the residents of Burpengary East should be aware that a development application has just been lodged with Moreton Bay Regional Council at Lot 903 Oakbank Circuit, Burpengary East, for a Telecommunications facility.

The technical information is:
• Application number - DA/2026/1865
• Application type - Material Change of Use - Development Permit for Telecommunications Facility

The application in its entirety can be viewed at your council’s DA Tracker:

DA/2026/1865 - Development applications - City of Moreton Bay (see comments for link)

As this application is “Impact Assessable” under the state’s Planning Act 2016, the applicant must publicly notify the application, and anybody can then lodge a formal “submission” with the council raising any issues, concerns, objection or support for the proposed development.

Submissions can be just to ensure a particular issue is noted by council to consider when assessing the application. For instance, you may generally be in favour of the proposed development but have concerns with some elements (ie. traffic management, noise, interface with existing surrounding homes, design and built form etc). Submissions assist council officers to “condition” the proposed development to add or change elements due to concerns raised by the public. For more information on this process and information on how to make a properly made submission have a look at the link in the comments.

Please note that the formal public consultation process for this proposed development has yet to commence; I will post further details when this occurs and advise you how and when to make a lawful submission. This is the only formal way you have the opportunity to voice your opinion; council’s planning officers do not take social media comments into consideration when assessing development applications.

Development applications are decided in one of two ways by Queensland local governments; they are either decided by the full elected council at a public general meeting (ie generally for the more complicated/unusual applications) or are decided by a council planning officer under formal delegation arrangements (ie generally used for the more conventional/typical applications).

If a delegated officer is deciding the application, Councillors are unable to direct the officers to make a particular decision either way that can only be done via voting and a formal resolution at a Councillor meeting. Councillor directions to council staff are banned under the Local Government Act 2009 and as such if I or any Councillor was to do so we would risk being arrested for misconduct, charged, and possibly jailed. I can also not be seen to have made a decision prior to receiving all the information, otherwise the decision I do make can be challenged in court due to a perceived bias.

Due to this, please understand the limitations on myself when asking questions or making comments regarding this development application and other council decisions.

If the full elected council is making the decision, each Councillor is bound under the Local Government Act to have an open mind at the council general meeting and vote (along with other Councillors) in the best long-term interests of the community based on the evidence provided to them.

As always, I am happy to answer any general questions you may have about the above process either here or privately via email [email protected] or by appointment via contacting my office on (07) 5433 2959.

Another day another Playground upgrade! 🙌🏻

Located at Clayton Park, Beachmere (corner of Main St & Biggs Ave) this is one I’ve been working on and pushing for since 2020 — listening to locals, hearing what families wanted, and making sure Beachmere gets a playground it actually deserves.

Not just for locals either… this is about creating a space that attracts visitors to Beachmere, brings more people into the area, and gives a boost to our local economy.

And we’ve managed to bring this project forward by a couple of years thanks to funding support from the State Government and Ariana Doolan MP which is a great result for the community 👏

What’s included:

• Full playground renewal at Clayton Park
• New all-ages play equipment with slides, swings and a wheel chair friendly carousel
• Accessible rubber surfacing connecting the whole space
• New park shelters and seating
• Sandstone block seating and upgraded gardens
• Fresh softfall (bark) throughout
• Existing climbing net being reused elsewhere
• 2 existing toilets already on site
• Plenty of car parking available
• Cafes just across the road — perfect for a coffee or lunch

💰 Total investment: $800,000
($500k State Government + $300k Council)

🌳 Let’s talk about SHADE (because I know it always comes up):

• A new shade sail WILL be installed over the swing and carousel area
• It’s been faded in the render so you can actually see the equipment
• The existing fig tree is much bigger in real life and will provide more shade than shown
• The tower is too high for a sail, but it includes multiple roofs for coverage

So yes — shade has absolutely been considered and included 👍

🗓 Timing:

Construction is happening right now and will be complete late June (weather permitting)
