This behaviour is called mantling, it’s when a bird spreads its wings and lowers its body over its food to hide and protect it.

In the wild, Whistling Kites will mantle over a meal to stop other birds and predators from spotting it and swooping in for an easy feed. Basically… “Nothing to see here, this is mine!” 😂

It’s an instinctive behaviour that helps them protect their hard-earned meal from potential food thieves. 🦅

My favourite part of the day is flying the birds in the afternoon. 💙💛

This is Teeko and Raya heading out for a lap around the neighbourhood. These two Blue-and-Gold Macaws are incredible to watch in flight, and moments like this never get old.

People often think this is “teasing” the crocs, but it’s actually the opposite.

We’re encouraging natural behaviours by getting them to use both their brains and muscles to perform an accurate strike just as they would in the wild. It’s enrichment, exercise, and an important part of keeping them mentally and physically engaged. 🐊

Old tree hollows are some of the most valuable real estate in Australia. 🦉🌳

Our Sooty Owl knows it! These hollows provide homes for hundreds of native species, but they can take over a century to form. Once they’re gone, they’re not easily replaced.
