A prescribed burn will commence on Saturday (18 April) at Googong Foreshores, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions. This burn is expected to take 2-6 days and will be visible from Googong township.
This burn is part of our annual program which aims to enhance the ecological and cultural values of our environment, reduce the risk of bushfires, and help keep Canberrans safe.
Smoke, flames, and glowing embers may be visible today and in the coming days. Please do not call emergency triple-zero (000) unless you see any unattended fire.
Drones and helicopters may be in use at prescribed burns. Please do not operate any private drones in near a prescribed burn.
Residents can prepare for the burn by doing the following:
• stay indoors if there is smoke around.
• close all windows and doors, and block air vents in your home.
• if you have an air conditioner, use it on the recycle setting at home and in the car, and
• avoid outdoor physical activity.
If you have asthma or other breathing problems, it's important to be ready and know how to respond if there is smoke in your area. To learn more, visit https://www.act.gov.au/environment/land/bushfire-management/outdoor-smoke-health-impacts
