With enough rain to make Noah start looking for timber and winds strong enough to relocate your wheelie bin or garden shed to the next postcode, our brave orange roof monkeys sprang into action. Alongside the chainsaw champions and our Incident Controller with his computer nerds (who heroically held the fort from the warm, dry office while watching the job numbers climb and quietly gasping into their coffees), it was all hands on deck.

The phones rang. Then rang some more. The emails pinged. Then pinged some more. At one point we're fairly sure the weather had our number on speed dial.

Starting at the respectable hour of 2am (because apparently storms don't believe in sleeping in on public holidays), crews worked right through to Monday afternoon. Over 20+ (we lost count) jobs rolled through the unit, keeping volunteers busy with everything from fallen trees and roof damage in weather that really didn't want them there

A huge thank you to every volunteer who gave up their long weekend, their sleep, and any chance of a relaxing public holiday, including our friends from Nannup SES, Bridgetown SES and the Manjimup data entry Wizards. Your commitment, teamwork, and ability to maintain a sense of humour while being repeatedly soaked by sideways rain and having your socks blown off is SO appreciated.

Thank you to you the good folk of Busso and surrounds for your paitence and your amazing prep which no doubt left us with alot less work!

# # 🌩️ Storm Preparation – Busselton Edition 🌩️

The forecast is looking a little... **"Thunderbolts and lightning, very, very frightening me!"** 🎡(no Thunderbolts and lightning are predicted as yet just work with the theme)

Before Mother Nature auditions for lead vocalist of Queen, (Freddie Mercury RIP) take a few minutes to prepare:

🏠 Roof Preparation

* Check for loose roofing, gutters, and flashing.
* Secure anything outside that could achieve unexpected flight status.
* Trampolines belong in backyards, not neighbouring postcodes.
* Give overhanging branches a trim where it's safe to do so.

πŸͺ£ Sandbagging

* Place sandbags around vulnerable doorways and garages.
* Clear gutters and drains so rainwater has somewhere to go other than your lounge room.
* Move valuables off the floor. Your television does not enjoy swimming lessons.

πŸ“ž When to Call the SES

Contact the State Emergency Service if:

* Storm damage has affected your roof.
* Trees have fallen and caused damage.
* Flooding is threatening your property.
* You need emergency assistance to make your home safe.

Call **000** for life-threatening emergencies.

# # # 🎭 Storm Survival Tips

* Charge your phone.
* Locate your torch before the power goes out, not after.
* Resist the urge to stand outside and say, "It's not that bad."
* If your weather app says "severe storm warning," that is generally not a challenge.

Stay safe, stay dry, and remember: preparation is much cheaper than discovering your roof has decided to work from home elsewhere.

This weekend was Chainsaw Appreciation Weekend in Carbunup River.

With storm season approaching, it was time for participants from Nannup, Donnybrook and the Busselton home team to brush up on the bookwork before slicing through trees like a vanilla sponge cake at a local CWA bake sale.

Meanwhile, the sheep supervised proceedings closely, ensuring all health and safety regulations were strictly observed.

Thanks as always to the usual suspects in the catering and accommodation departments for keeping everyone well fed, rested, and ready to tackle another day on the tools.

And we’re pretty sure the local farmer β€” also known as the lead chainsaw assessor β€” is quietly appreciating what will no doubt become one very respectable bonfire.

Today, on International Firefighters' Day, we pause to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of firefighters.

These moving words are a fitting tribute to the brave individuals who put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities - we express our deepest gratitude to all firefighters for your service.
