The atmosphere was beautifully calm and relaxing today, especially with Joseph providing some excellent tunes to keep us moving. 🎶

The concentration was sky-high as everyone got stuck into making their quirky wooden spoon wind chimes! 🥄🔔

Meanwhile, our green thumbs were working hard on our daily duties: the worms were fed, the garden beds were beautifully watered by Ty, and we even discovered that some of our cuttings are producing flowers already! 🌸🐛

The highlight of the day had to be handing out the invites for our upcoming excursion! Everyone was super stoked and excited to receive theirs. We even got the ball rolling on brainstorming some delicious share plate ideas for the trip. 💡🥪

We are so proud of how hard everyone worked and how beautifully the group is coming together. Bring on the adventure! 🙌❤️

✨ It is time for our next Weekly Highlight, and this week we are incredibly excited to introduce a fantastic new member of our leadership team, Kandice!

Kandice has stepped into the role of Program Support Officer, and she has been an absolute breeze to work with since day one. We asked her about her journey, her goals, and what quality care means to her.

💡 What Inspired You to Join the Sector? "I was inspired by my own lived experience, having family who were being supported by support workers to live independently. I wanted to be a person who empowered and advocated for people when they needed it the most and to make a positive impact on someone’s daily life."

✨ Why She Loves Her Work Kandice brings a wonderful "can-do" attitude and adapts quickly to any challenge. When asked about her Favorite part of the job, she shares: "My favourite part about helping participants is seeing the satisfaction and self confidence that comes with accomplishing daily goals. Being a part of something special and making a difference to a person's life is a wonderful feeling."

🤝 What Quality Care Means to Kandice, describing our team culture as "Inclusive, Empathetic, and Fun" represents exactly how she approaches her daily work: "Quality care to me means helping our participants and team members to feel safe, respected, heard, and valued in our community."

🎯 Looking Ahead: Her 6-Month Goal Kandice is looking forward to growing more as a leader and building deep connections across the organisation. She has set a beautiful goal for her first six months: "My goal for the first six months is to get to know everyone as an individual and not just a name that I see on a computer every day."

💬 What the Team Thinks of Her: Kandice has already proven to be an incredible asset. She is a dedicated Program Support Officer who consistently demonstrates strong organisational skills and a person-centred approach. She works collaboratively with participants, families, and team members to ensure services run smoothly. Her professionalism, reliability, and commitment to participant outcomes make her a valued member of the Homelife team.

We are so lucky to have Kandice’s professional commitment, lived experience, and genuine care guiding our programs. Please join us in giving her a very warm welcome to the leadership team!

As a support provider, there is no greater reward than seeing our participants step out of their comfort zones, try new things, and truly thrive. When we first meet a new participant, we always ask: “What are your personal goals?” We don’t just mean the formal NDIS goals on paper, we want to discover what you genuinely want to achieve and experience in life. ✨

Witnessing those organic, personal goals come to fruition is what it’s all about. 🏆

Achieving a goal gives us the perfect opportunity to sit down, celebrate, and ask: “What’s next?” For now, we are just loving the journey.

A perfect example of this philosophy in action happened this week, all starting from a simple conversation on the highway! While out on support, Team Member Kristy-Lee and Joseph spotted some golf buggies on a truck. It sparked a great chat about golf, and Kristy-Lee offered to swap their usual train-watching routine for a day on the green if Joseph ever wanted to try it. ⛳️

On Tuesday, Joseph made the independent choice to head down to the driving range near Brisbane Airport/DFO—and it was a massive success!
Joseph had an absolute blast practicing his swing on the range 🏌️‍♂️. He was so proud of his efforts, he told his parents about it with such excitement. He loved it so much that he officially signed up for a membership to get local perks and is already planning a return trip next week, complete with a picnic lunch. 🙃

To wrap up a perfect day, they explored DFO for the very first time. Joseph was thrilled to discover the Lindt shop and track down his absolute favourite chocolate that you can’t find in normal supermarkets anymore. 🍫

What a brilliant day of trying new things, making independent choices, and thriving!

We are so incredibly proud of Joseph for making choices that bring him joy and for diving into new experiences with such enthusiasm. Here’s to many more driving range days (and picnic lunches) ahead! 🏌️‍♂️✨ 💜💚

Our Arts & Crafts room was a beautiful hub of concentration and creativity today as we tackled Bead Embroidery!

After just a few practice stitches, absolutely everyone got the hang of it! In fact, everyone was cruising so smoothly that our wonderful facilitator, Paivi, was even able to sit down and work on her own piece. 🎨🙌We received fantastic feedback from the attending support workers, who loved seeing how amazing this intricate work is for hand dexterity and focus. 🧠💪

Even with all that intense concentration, the room was buzzing with our usual laughs and non-stop chatter. 💬❤️

The results are looking so spectacular that we are continuing this project into next week! We’re brainstorming ideas to turn our finished embroidered fabric into bookmarks or another fun, small keepsake—the sky is the limit! 🔖🚀

Our Garden Group absolutely smashed it today! We had a double-dose of fun, combining some serious brainpower with hands-on crafting.

Everyone’s knowledge was put to the test today, quizzing the group on everything we’ve been learning recently, from composting secrets to natural fertilisers. The verdict? They absolutely smashed it! We have a hub full of certified green thumbs.💚🤙

With our resident DJ Joseph supplying the perfect background music on his speaker, we got stuck into making two different styles of bird feeders. 🎶 We made fantastic textured pine cone feeders and a beautifully vibrant, beaded popsicle stick platform feeder. 💜

The local birds are going to absolutely love visiting our garden now. It was a day full of top-tier teamwork, music, and massive smiles! 🥰🙌

🌟 Meet the Team: Katie! 🌟

Katie joined the Homelife team just over 3 months ago, but she has already brought fantastic energy to our community as a dedicated Team Member.

✨ Why Katie Loves Her Work
For Katie, the heart of support work comes down to the people. She shares: “I love meeting new people and helping people.”

🤝 What It’s Like Working with Katie
Katie brings a refreshing, straightforward, and highly motivated dynamic to the team. If you ask her what potential participants should know about her style, she says it best: “I am firm but fair, can be loud, and I like a job done right the first time.” Her focus on quality support and her bright, energetic personality mean that things get done properly while keeping the environment fun, honest, and engaging.

🏍️ Life Outside of Homelife
When she isn’t busy helping others, Katie is all about action, the outdoors, and quality family time. Outside of work, you can find her:
• ⛺ Heading off on family Camping and Fishing trips. •
🏍️Motorbike riding with her family. •
🏃‍♀️ Staying active on the field playing Oztag.

We are so glad to have Katie’s vibrant energy, high standards, and passion for helping people as part of our Homelife family! Next time you see her, be sure to say hi! 💜💚
