Tonight for drill 'C' platoon hosted Fire and Rescue NSW Station 049 Cabramatta NSW RFS - Casula Brigade.

We spoke about the importance of decontamination after fires, no matter how big or small.

Cabramatta firefighters explained the WEPRO (work exposure protection) system of fire ground decontamination.
A comprehensive fire ground decontamination system designed to protect firefighters from harmful exposures during firefighting operations.
Stressing, in particular that none of our dirty work clothing should worn home in our cars and then put through the wash with our families clothing.

Busby firefighters then explained how the new fire station was designed and built with firefighter health and safety at the forefront. It has a three tier system of, red - dirty area, orange - transition area and green - clean area.
The drill concluded with a walk through explaining how the three stages work in practice, with no dirty work gear ending up in the clean area.

HOUSE FIRE: Just after 3:30pm today, crews from 031 Busby, 007 Horningsea Park and 049 Cabramatta were alerted to a House Fire in Lurnea.

Upon arrival, first arriving crews from Busby found a two level house totally involved in fire. Crews worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control. Access was hampered as the roof in the main living area collapsed, preventing firefighters from accessing the second level to put out stubborn hotspots.

A 2nd alarm response was called, drawing resources from Campbelltown, Liverpool, Revesby and Macquarie Fields.

Unfortunately, a man was injured in the blaze, and transported to Royal North Shore Hospital. Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.

BUSH FIRE 10TH ALARM: Just before 2pm yesterday (28/8/2024), Pump 49 Cabramatta was responded to a then Bush Fire 3rd Alarm to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 007 Horningsea Park with property protection in the vicinity of Edmondson Park.

Approximately 1 minute away from the incident, we were directed to Stormberg Place, Edmondson Park to set up to protect the properties. Pump 49, working alongside the crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 008 Liverpool, observed erratic fire behaviour and worked in challenging conditions to save the houses on Winburg Drive and Stormberg Place.

We also worked alongside the crews from Catherine Field Rural Fire Brigade, NSW RFS - Horsley Park Brigade, NSW RFS - Casula Brigade who also worked through the challenging conditions.

At the height of the incident, a bush fire 10th alarm was called, drawing resources from around Sydney to assist. The fire was upgraded to an “Emergency Warning”, notifying residents it was too late to leave.

Crews from both Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service worked extremely hard to protect properties on a fire which was unpredictable and hard to control. An abandoned house was destroyed, as well as some carnival equipment. Thankfully, there was no life lost.

A great save by all crews.

Pump 49 Cabramatta was second arriving to this major incident in Bossley Park this afternoon. A challenging incident with many critical factors. Crews worked together throughout the afternoon to deal with the incident which is now coming to a close. An incredible result with no major injuries sustained to the pilots or members of the public.

HOUSE FIRE: Just after 1am this morning (22nd July 2024), Pump 49 was responded as additional back up to support Busby Fire Station and Horningsea Park Fire Station at a House Fire on Hoxton Park Road, Cartwright.

Crews arrived quickly to find a 2 storey house totally involved in fire. An incredibly stubborn and deep seated fire meant that all resources were committed in active firefighting operations for many hours, as well as drawing in more resources from around Sydney to assist with final extinguishment.

The crew from Cabramatta was released at 5am, before heading back to station to clean all the gear, re-stock the truck, and get ready for the next call.

Thankfully, the family escaped without serious injury. Yet another timely reminder to check you have a working smoke alarm.
