In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000). NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. We are a volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency assistance to the people of NSW 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It is the approximately 9,000 volunteers across the state that make this possible. NSW SES Volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes:
Road accident rescue
Vertical rescue
Bush search and rescue
Evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of NSW. The organisations trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

🧡 CABRAMATTA YOU DEFINITELY BROUGHT THE VIBES TO THE MOON FESTIVAL🧡

Yesterday, our NSW SES team members rolled into Cabramatta for a day packed with good vibes, great people and plenty of community fun!

We teamed up with our neighbouring NSW SES Liverpool and NSW SES Bankstown Unit to engage with the community, talk about what we do and of course, soak up the sun and festivities!☀️

And we have to say… we were seriously impressed! 👏
You guys nailed the questions we threw at you about the SES and how to prepare for the storm season. It was fantastic to see so many people already thinking ahead and knowing what to do when severe weather hits.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, tested their knowledge and said hello! 🫶

💛 A SIMPLE QUESTION CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE - R U OK? 💛

Sometimes, “How are you going?” is more important than we realise.

For our NSW SES volunteers, we know the job doesn’t always finish when we return to the unit. The things we see, the people we help and the experiences we share can stay with us long after the lights and sirens have stopped.

So today, we’re encouraging our members, their families, friends and everyone in our community to:

💬 Ask — “Are you OK?”
👂 Listen — Give your time and attention.
🤝 Connect — Let them know you’re there and help them find support if they need it..

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us over the weekend!

We really appreciated the assistance received from our neighbouring NSW SES units, as we worked together to respond to the impacts of the wild weather across Sydney.

It was certainly a busy weekend for our volunteers, and the teamwork and support between units made a huge difference. 💪🧡

Today is all about celebrating the amazing dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures who give so much to their families and the communities.

And while many dads today are enjoying breakfast in bed and a well-earned sleep-in, some of our NSW SES dads are spending their Father’s Day a little differently. They’re out again today lending a hand and helping our community recover from yesterday’s storm event.

Their commitment helps make our communities stronger, safer, and more connected.
