In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000). NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. We are a volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency assistance to the people of NSW 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It is the approximately 9,000 volunteers across the state that make this possible. NSW SES

Volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes:
Road accident rescue
Vertical rescue
Bush search and rescue
Evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of NSW. The organisations trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

📸 MAY THROUGH THE LENS OF FAIRFIELD SES

Whether on the water, in the field, or assisting neighbouring units, our members continued to demonstrate the teamwork and commitment that make NSW SES volunteers so special. ✨

This month saw some fantastic achievements within our unit, with one member successfully qualifying as a boat operator, another as a land base flood operator and the addition of a new light flood rescue vehicle to the cluster! 🛟

Our volunteers were also called to assist with a range of operations throughout the month, including the successful rescue of an injured bird over the Georges River, attending to a burst water main with the assistance of our fellow NSW SES Bankstown Unit and supporting the NSW Police Force and our fellow SES units in several land searches.

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to all of our members who continue to give their time, energy, and commitment to serving the community. We are incredibly proud of everything achieved throughout May and look forward to continuing that momentum into June. 💪

🧡 IT'S A WOW KIND OF WEDNESDAY 🧡

Today we’re proudly wearing orange to celebrate and say thank you to all the incredible volunteers of the NSW SES across Australia.

Behind every storm response, flood rescue and community event are everyday people giving up their time to help others when it matters most.

WOW Day is a chance to recognise the volunteers who answer these calls at all hours - rain, hail or shine - and continue showing up for their communities with dedication, teamwork and heart. 🧡

To all our volunteers, we thank you for everything you do, both on and off the field. Your efforts never go unnoticed, and our community is stronger because of you.

🧡 This Wednesday, We Wear Orange🧡

This Wednesday, we'll be celebrating WOW Day, a day of appreciation for the incredible volunteers of the NSW SES.

This year, WOW Day takes place during National Volunteer Week (18–24 May) – a week that recognises the contribution of volunteers from all walks of life who dedicate countless hours to helping their communities and often putting others before themselves.

On Wednesday, we encourage everyone to help us say a big THANK YOU to the thousands of SES volunteers across the country. Whether it’s a wave, a message of support, or simply wearing orange, every little bit of appreciation means a lot to our volunteers! 🧡

WINGIN’ IT ON MOTHER’S DAY 🪽

Earlier this afternoon, our team got a call about a bird stuck high up in a tree over the water, unable to get itself free. With no safe access from land, the team, with assistance from NSW SES Bankstown Unit, launched a boat into the Georges River and carefully made our way in to help.

After a bit of teamwork, patience, and some careful manoeuvring, we were able to safely rescue the bird and help deliver it to the local vet for a quick check-up. 🩺

A huge thank you to the members involved! 👏

💕HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!💕

Today, we celebrate the incredible mothers, grandmothers, carers, and strong women who give so much of themselves every single day. 💐

To the mums and grandmothers within our NSW SES community, and the mothers of our amazing volunteers, we thank you for your strength, resilience, compassion, and endless support. Behind every act of service is often a woman holding families, communities, and hearts together.

Your care does not go unnoticed, and your impact reaches further than words can describe.

From all of us, we wish you a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with love, appreciation, and moments of peace and joy. 🧡

We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, fellow volunteers and all those impacted by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the surviving crew members, and we wish them strength and a full recovery in the days ahead.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected as we stand alongside Marine Rescue NSW and our fellow emergency services personnel, recognising the courage, professionalism and dedication shown by all responders.
