We've Been Quiet... But We've Been Busy! 🧡

You might not have heard from us for a little while, but behind the scenes it's been anything but quiet!

On Friday, our members were proud to attend the Victory in the Pacific commemorative event, joining our community to honour those who served and sacrificed during WWII. It was a privilege to pay our respects and be part of such a meaningful occasion.

The weekend didn't slow down either, with several of our volunteers undertaking a Drive Operational Vehicle (DOV) Course. From classroom learning to practical driving, we're building the skills needed to safely respond when our community needs us most.

Whether we're out in the community, training, or preparing for the next call-out, our volunteers are always putting in the work behind the scenes!

🚨A nationwide test of the new national warning system AusAlert is happening this Monday 27 July 2026. Here's what you need to know.

On Monday 27 July 2026, we’re testing Australia’s new national warning system AusAlert.

An AusAlert test message will be sent to all compatible mobile devices across Australia at the same time. Depending on your location, you may receive the alert between 11am and 2pm local time. The test will occur during school hours in all states and territories.

AusAlert messages may appear on the phones, tablets and smart watches of children and teens. Apple iPads will not receive AusAlerts.

To prepare for AusAlert, parents, carers and guardians should help children understand:
📱 what AusAlert is.
⚠️what alerts mean.
✅ what to do if they receive an alert.

You may have already received information from your school about AusAlert testing. Follow your school’s advice about phone and device use.

UPDATE: Telstra have advised that services should now be restored. If your Telstra device is still experiencing connectivity issues, please power the device off and then back on.

NSW SES is aware of a widespread Telstra outage impacting mobile customers on Wednesday 8 July.

The NSW SES remains operational and ready to respond to incidents.

🔸 There is no impact to our 132 500 phone line.

Members of the public may have connectivity issues with a Telstra device and are encouraged to call from a different carrier, landline or a neighbours phone.

☎️ For a life-threatening emergency situation, call Triple Zero (000).

🏆A NIGHT OF EXCELLENCE🏆

Earlier this week, our unit came together for our bi-annual Awards Night, celebrating the dedication, commitment, and achievements of our members.

Congratulations to everyone who received awards and reached significant milestones, including Peter Turner (20 Years of Service), Ross Weller (National Medal and 15 Years of Service), and Jayke Stanton and Vannara Tan (10 Years of Service). We also had the privilege of recognising members who were awarded their Flood Citations and celebrating the achievements of our newest Senior Operators, Operators, and Job Ready members as they officially joined their respective ranks.

We’d also like to extend a big thank you to David Saliba MP, Councillor Kevin Lam - City of Fairfield, our Deputy Local Commander Andrew Hubbard, and our Zone Commander Andrew Dadley for joining us to celebrate the evening.

Congratulations to all our NSW SES award recipients, and thank you to every member for your ongoing dedication and service to our community. 👏

⚠️ COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION – AUSALERT TEST MESSAGE ⚠️

As part of the rollout and testing of the new AusAlert emergency warning system, community-based trials are taking place across Australia this month.

A test message has been scheduled for 4:00pm tomorrow on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, targeting the Liverpool area. Please be aware that previous tests in other states have shown that messages can extend beyond the intended area. As a result, residents in parts of the Bankstown and Fairfield LGAs may also receive the test alert.

This is only a test and no action will be required if you receive the message.

📸 MAY THROUGH THE LENS OF FAIRFIELD SES

Whether on the water, in the field, or assisting neighbouring units, our members continued to demonstrate the teamwork and commitment that make NSW SES volunteers so special. ✨

This month saw some fantastic achievements within our unit, with one member successfully qualifying as a boat operator, another as a land base flood operator and the addition of a new light flood rescue vehicle to the cluster! 🛟

Our volunteers were also called to assist with a range of operations throughout the month, including the successful rescue of an injured bird over the Georges River, attending to a burst water main with the assistance of our fellow NSW SES Bankstown Unit and supporting the NSW Police Force and our fellow SES units in several land searches.

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to all of our members who continue to give their time, energy, and commitment to serving the community. We are incredibly proud of everything achieved throughout May and look forward to continuing that momentum into June. 💪
