Cape York Partnership Cape York Partnership is an Indigenous policy reform and leadership organisation dedicated to empowering Cape York Indigenous people.

Cape York Partnership pursues Indigenous empowerment. The long hand of government intervention in the lives of Indigenous people has too often smothered Indigenous initiative, leadership and responsibility. Cape York Partnership is an Indigenous organisation that has stood up to lead a comprehensive reform agenda to turn this on its head. We want to ensure that Indigenous rights and responsibility

exist in proper balance, and Indigenous people are truly enabled to be the masters of their own exciting destinies. Cape York Partnership believes economic engagement is central to individual and social wellbeing. To that end, we partner with governments, corporates and philanthropists to encourage the emergence of a prosperous yet distinctly Indigenous people, whose children can orbit between communities and the Australian and global world and enjoy the best of both. Our touchstone is our partnership with individuals, families and communities as they strive for lives of value, freedom and prosperity. We believe in the potential of all people. We place our children’s rights to a better future at the forefront. Above all, Cape York Partnership takes, and expects from our partners, responsibility for leading positive change. The guiding light of Cape York Partnership is the Cape York Agenda. The aspirations of Cape York people became the Cape York Agenda:

From Tully to Mossman, our Bama Services crew continues to deliver quality landscaping and construction work across Far North Queensland. 👏

We currently have a team on site in Mossman, delivering a project that includes 250 metres of timber fencing and 60 metres of concrete sleeper retaining walls.

It is another strong example of Bama Services’ capability in civil and landscaping works, while creating meaningful employment pathways and building skills for our people.

"The rock who steadied us in the storm."

What a magnificent permanent tribute unveiled to honour one of the greatest Indigenous leaders of the modern era: Dr. Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG.

At the base of this magnificent statue, the words of our founder, Noel Pearson, are permanently etched into history. This powerful tribute originates from Pearson’s seminal 2012 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration, where he spoke of her unparalleled fortitude. He rightfully remembered her as “ our greatest leader of the modern era”, and a “leader’s leader”, the fierce, steady anchor who guided Indigenous Australians through the complex political and social upheavals of native title negotiations and self-determination.

Dr. O’Donoghue’s life was defined by an extraordinary capacity to bridge divides. As Noel Pearson captured so brilliantly in his oration, she possessed a rare and potent leadership style, one that combined "toughness and tenderness in perfect symbiosis." She was never afraid to sit at the toughest tables, tackle the most adversarial arguments, or hold open the doors of opportunity for the generations walking behind her.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the State of South Australia for rightfully honouring this impressive Australian leader. By elevating her legacy in the public square, SA ensures that her moral clarity, courage, and lifetime of service will continue to inspire future decision-makers.
Dr. Lowitja O’Donoghue changed the river of Australian history. May we continue to use our voices to carry her fearless legacy forward.

Today, on Mabo Day, we honour the courage, strength and legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo.

His fight was never just about law. It was about truth. It was about identity, family, Country and the deep connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have always held with land and sea.

The 1992 Mabo decision changed the course of this nation. It recognised what First Nations people had always known: that this land was never empty, and that our peoples’ rights, cultures and connections endure.

At Cape York Partnership, we acknowledge the leaders, families and communities whose courage continues to shape the path towards justice, recognition and self-determination.

Today, we remember Eddie Koiki Mabo and all who stood with him. We carry his legacy forward through our commitment to truth, empowerment and a stronger future for our children.

Big opportunities start with strong connections 👏

Recently, Years 10 to 12 students from Djarragun College connected with the Rio Tinto Weipa team through our School to Jobs program to learn more about career pathways in mining.

Nicole Bobongie, Community Engagement Adviser and Marvin Bell, Indigenous Employment and Development Advisor, were joined by Jordon Harding from Lockhart River, Yesha Lifu from New Mapoon and Kai Koomeeta from Aurukun, who shared their personal journeys into the industry and what their roles with Rio Tinto look like today.

Hearing directly from local role models helps young people build confidence, strengthen connections and see clearer pathways into future employment.

Thank you to the Rio Tinto Weipa team for investing time in our young people and helping inspire the next generation.

A proud moment for Cape York Leaders Program scholar Elsie, who recently shared an artwork she helped contribute to for National Boarders Week 🎨

Elsie’s contribution included painting the flags, cross and Aboriginal handprint, proudly bringing creativity, culture and meaning into the piece.

It is always wonderful to see our kids taking part in school life, sharing their talents and contributing to activities that celebrate identity, belonging and community.

Our Cape York Leaders Program team caught up with students at St Peters Lutheran College as part of our regular school visits and student support check-ins. 💙

It was a great opportunity to hear how students are going with boarding life, school engagement and recent cross country experiences, while also talking through future goals and career pathways.

The team also spent time supporting Year 7 student Alihandra as they continue settling into boarding school, and helping senior students with document acquisition, employment readiness and planning for life beyond school.

We are proud to walk alongside our students throughout their boarding school journey as they build confidence, independence and strong foundations for their future. 📚✨
