Thanks to our community, Cairns topped Queensland's MobileMuster leaderboard with 258.73kg recycled in FY26 and 1,007.72kg collected over the past five years.

โ™ป๏ธThink recycling only happens in the kitchen? The bathroom, laundry and garage would like a word.

From shampoo bottles in the shower to detergent containers in the laundry and household containers in the garage, recyclable items can be found right throughout your home.

Donโ€™t hoard them or let them fall into the red bin. Before putting items in your recycling bin, remember:
โœ… Empty
โœ… Clean
โœ… No lids or anything smaller than a credit card

The recyclables are innocent. The lids are the real troublemakers.

Redlynch, Redlynch Valley, Freshwater and Brinsmead residents may hear the sirens sound multiple times throughout the morning as they are tested individually and simultaneously.

Residents are not required to take any action when the sirens sound. This is the perfect time to look at your own emergency action plan and remind yourself, family and neighbours what you need to do if there is a real emergency.

The Cairns Water Security Stage 1 project has reached a major construction milestone, bringing the region one step closer to a more secure and reliable water supply.

ยท 30km of new pipeline installed
ยท UV treatment building completed
ยท Reservoir construction progressing
ยท Pre-commissioning works now underway

The project has already injected more than $144 million into the local economy, supporting 164 local businesses and creating employment opportunities for more than 1,300 people.

Ten Cairns sporting and community clubs are receiving security upgrades to help protect their facilities and members.

Council will work with the chosen clubs to deliver up to $250,000 of approved upgrades with the greater aim of deterring crime and providing greater peace of mind for patrons.

Council tests the emergency sirens once a year and, as the owner of Copperlode Falls Dam, has a legislative requirement to maintain an Emergency Action Plan

Cairns Festival kicks off this week! (28 Aug - 6 Sep).

Across the 10 days, there are 50+ events and 49 free experiences spanning music, art, theatre, family fun, light installations, markets and more.

FRI 28 AUG
Weโ€™re kicking things off BIG. Electric Fields, Tjaka and The Pad Boys hit the Main Stage, plus Tanks Twilight Markets, VOICES, Bubble Emporium and Canvas of Cairns.

SAT 29 AUG
The Grand Parade takes over the Esplanade from 5.30pm, followed by fireworks at 7.30pm. Then keep the party going with Caravana Sun, Horns of Leroy, Hot Potato Band and Burger Joint.
