What an exciting milestone for us here at Nintiringanyi 🙌🏾

Just a short while ago, we shared that construction had begun on our new wall — and now, we’re proud to say it’s officially complete!

This is more than just a wall. It’s a step forward in creating a stronger, more functional space for the work we do and the community we serve.

Next up, we move into the final stages:
🔌 Installing powerpoints
❄️ Fitting air conditioning
🪵 Laying the flooring

We’re getting closer every day to bringing this space to life — ready to welcome the DIYDG - Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good team as they continue their important work supporting our community.

Stay tuned… big things are coming.

🔨 Exciting Update at Our Building!

We’re pleased to share that renovation work has now started on the upstairs back room. This space is being upgraded to create additional office areas to be utilised by DIYDG - Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good, whose team continues to grow.

This project has been a long time coming. When the building was first renovated back in 2010, this was one section we were unable to complete at the time. Since then, there hasn’t been an immediate need to finish this part of the building, and funding has also been a factor.

We’re grateful that the timing is now right, both the need and the finances are in place, and it’s great to finally see this vision becoming a reality.

Work is already underway, and we’re looking forward to sharing the finished result with you when renovations are expected to be completed next week. Stay tuned for photos and updates!

A little garden update we’re really excited about 🌱

Recently, the team from Cairns Central volunteered their time for a community day and helped create a garden space on our property.

We’ll be sharing a proper acknowledgement and more detail about that day soon — but for now, we wanted to show the progress.

The corn and cucumbers have really taken off. Seeing where it started and where it’s at now has been pretty special.

There’s something powerful about growing food in a place where people come to reset, regroup, and work through personal challenges.

We’re very much looking forward to tasting what comes from this space.

🌪️ Community Update – Stay Safe, Far North Queensland

We’re aware of the developing cyclone system off the coast.

At this moment, warnings are in place for communities between Cooktown and Palm Island, and our thoughts are with everyone across these areas. Please remember that advice and warning zones can change quickly, which is why it’s so important to stay updated through official sources.

While we are not an emergency authority and cannot provide official updates, we strongly encourage everyone to monitor trusted sources such as:

• Bureau of Meteorology
• Cairns Regional Council
• Queensland Police Service
• Queensland Fire Department

Please follow their official websites and verified social media pages for accurate, up-to-date information.

Now is the time to prepare:
✔️ Secure loose items around your home
✔️ Stock up on essential supplies (water, non-perishable food, batteries, medications)
✔️ Charge phones and power banks
✔️ Fuel vehicles if needed
✔️ Review your emergency plan

Most importantly, let’s check in on our vulnerable community members — our Elders, children, those living alone, people who are unwell, and anyone experiencing mental health challenges. A phone call, a message, or offering practical help can make a real difference.

In an emergency, call 000.
For SES assistance (non-life-threatening storm help), contact 132 500.

Our community is strongest when we look after one another. Please stay safe, stay prepared, and stay connected.

Stay safe, Family 💛

Our CIYEP team recently came together for an intense, full-day workshop focused on improving how we deliver our programs and support young people and families.

The day was packed with:
▪ Reviewing last year’s work as a team
▪ Thinking deeply about why we do this work
▪ Discussing program delivery, KPIs, and budgets
▪ Reflecting on staff performance and growth

We were also joined by our Nintiringanyi Indigenous Corporation Board of Directors, who participated in the activities and shared their insights.

It was a day of long discussions, challenging old ways of doing things, generating new ideas, and making sure that everything we do is focused on being more impactful and present in the community.

Hard work like this doesn’t always get seen, but it’s the foundation for meaningful change.

Looks calm? Think again 😎
Our staff are out in the community, checking in, lending a hand, and quietly doing their best for young people and families.

One of the quiet strengths of our property is this old gum tree.

It stands tall through heat, rain, wind, cyclones, hail storms, and long seasons — offering shade from the hot sun, shelter from the rain, and a sense of calm to a place that can sometimes hold a lot of heavy stories.

Many people who come through our doors are carrying personal battles. This tree doesn’t ask questions. It just stands, steady and present.

Interesting fact: Gum trees are known for their deep root systems, allowing them to survive harsh conditions and recover after stress or damage. Even after fire or drought, they often regenerate and keep growing.

There’s something in that which feels familiar to the work we do.
