🌟 Yarns form Yaburu Bulmba: August 🌟
YB mentors and Senior students attended the Young Indigenous Women in Leadership (YIWIL) Forum in Week 2 of this term. This forum is focused around three Indigenous grassroots programs - Yaburu Bulmba, SHELLS and Yabuuruu Banduu - collaborating to ignite change, leadership, and empowerment to our young Indigenous girls.
During the gathering, students connected with students from the grassroots programs, heard stories from elders and women in community, and participated in team building activities that centred around this year’s NAIDOC theme ’50 years of Deadly’.
Our deadly YB Girls were celebrated for their hard work, positive behaviour and commitment at the Star Girls Lunch, for girls who successfully passed all their core subjects, demonstrated good behaviour and maintained high attendance throughout Term 2. YB mentors invited more than 60 girls into J Block, where they hosted and cooked a big feed for all of our superstar girls. The lunch was a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our YB girls and remind them that their hard work and positive choices do not go unnoticed. A big congratulations to all our Star Girls! We are incredibly proud of you!
Finally, our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 YB girls, recently enjoyed their Junior Camp at the beautiful Quinola Lakes. The camp was filled with fun, adventure and plenty of opportunities for the girls to get outdoors, try new activities and build connections with one another.
The girls enjoyed the big bonfires, swimming in the lakes, tackling the big water slides and mud slides and learning teamwork skills while canoeing. A special highlight at the end of the camp was visiting the famous Curtain Fig Tree, where students had the opportunity to explore and learn more about this beautiful landmark.
