๐Ÿ”ฅ The 2025/26 Fire Permit Period will end statewide tomorrow (Thursday, 9 April 2026).

โ„น๏ธ From 2am tomorrow, if youโ€™re considering burning on your property:
๐Ÿค you donโ€™t require a fire permit
๐Ÿค BUT we encourage you to register your burn by calling 1800 000 699. Registering your burn will ensure your local Tasmania Fire Service brigade are aware of your plans and can respond accordingly.

๐Ÿ“ Remember:
โžก๏ธ Anyone conducting a burn must be capable of managing the fire and be mindful of changing weather conditions.
โžก๏ธ Make sure an adult is always attending the burn until it is fully extinguished.
โžก๏ธ Have suitable working firefighting equipment available to appropriately manage fire activity in the event that the fire begins to spread.
โžก๏ธ Never light fires in peat, humus, or marram grass.
โžก๏ธ Landowners are responsible for any damage caused by fires escaping their land.
โžก๏ธ Ensure your neighbours are aware and that your burn wonโ€™t adversely affect their health, or farming operations โ€“ particularly the wine industry, which is vulnerable to smoke.
โžก๏ธ Burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws and environmental laws about smoke emissions.

Our crews responded to three bushfires yesterday afternoon, prompting emergency and watch and act warnings for communities in the stateโ€™s south, central highlands and the north west.

๐Ÿ”ฅ A fire at Glen Dhu Road, Molesworth, spread quickly due to dry conditions and available fuels. A Bushfire Advice warning remains in place and crews will be patrolling over the coming days.

๐Ÿ”ฅA fire at Cuprona Road, Heybridge also remains at Bushfire Advice level with crews including heavy machinery returning to the fireground this morning.

๐Ÿ”ฅA Bushfire Watch and Act warning remains in place for a fire at Woods Lake, Interlaken. Fire crews and heavy machinery remain on the fireground this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast an increased risk of thunderstorms, lightning, strong to gusty winds, and increased fire danger weather today, so it is important that all Tasmanians are prepared.

Take extra precautions if you plan on conducting activities such as cutting, welding and using heavy machinery as sparks can easily start fires in the already dry conditions making controlling any fires that do start difficult to control.

๐Ÿ”ฅ If you see a fire burning, report it to triple zero (000).

๐Ÿ”ฅ For information on preparing your property, go to the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au and download a copy of the Bushfire Safety Guide.

๐Ÿ”ฅ To check the fire danger rating in your area, visit www.fire.tas.gov.au/fire -danger-ratings/summary/

๐Ÿ”ฅ For bushfire warnings and alerts, visit TasALERT or listen to ABC Radio as emergency broadcaster.

We'd like to thank the Tasmanian community for their support during the Total Fire Ban in southern Tasmania yesterday.

Community cooperation played an important role in reducing the risk of fires during a period of heightened fire danger.

๐Ÿ”ฅ During the Total Fire Ban, 23 fires were reported statewide, but were quickly contained with the support of firefighting aircraft and ground crews.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast elevated fire danger weather for the remainder of the week, and as a result, weโ€™ve declared a statewide suspension in the issuing of fire permits from 2am yesterday (4 February), until 2am Saturday, 7 February 2026.

โŒ No fire permits will be issued for burns during that period of suspension.

โŒ Any fire permits already issued for fires during this period are cancelled, as conditions will be unsafe for burning.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ฆ If you have burned in the past week, check that your fire is fully extinguished. Soak it, stir it, soak it again.

๐Ÿ‘Ž Given the likely conditions across much of the state, burns that are under one cubic metre, which do not require a permit, are strongly discouraged.

We're prepared to respond to fires across the landscape, and we encourage every Tasmanian to review their bushfire plan.

๐Ÿ“ If you donโ€™t have a plan, visit fire.tas.gov.au to prepare one to keep you and your loved ones safe.

๐Ÿ”ฅIf you see smoke, flames, or anything that looks like a fire re-igniting, please donโ€™t assume someone else has reported it.

โ˜Ž๏ธ Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

After a review of current and forecast conditions, Tasmania Fire Service has declared statewide suspension of the issuing of fire permits from now until 2am, Saturday 7 February.

This decision has been made to keep the Tasmanian community safe.

A Total Fire Ban is also in place for Southern Region from 2am, today (Wednesday 4 February) until 2am, Thursday 5 February.

During the total fire ban period:
โŒ No fires are permitted in the open, including:
โŒ incinerators
โŒ burn-offs
โŒ campfires and fire pots
โŒ wood-fuelled barbecues

You can find out more about the rules during a Total Fire Ban at: fire.tas.gov.au/about/rules-during-fire-permit-periods-and-total-fire-bans

โŒ No new fire permits will be issued
โŒ Any fire permits already issued for this period are cancelled, as conditions will be unsafe for burning.

๐Ÿ”ฅHad a fire recently? Check it now and make sure it is fully extinguished โ€“ soak it, stir it, soak it again.

๐Ÿ  If you live in a bushfire-prone area:
๐Ÿ“‘ Review your Bushfire Plan now
๐Ÿ“ฑ Stay informed at TasALERT or ABC Radio
๐Ÿ”ฅ See smoke or fire?
๐Ÿ“ž Report it immediately to Triple Zero (000).

Keep up-to-date with:

31/01/2026

With High Fire Danger ratings forecast for most of Tasmania tomorrow (Sunday, 1 February), there are a few things we can all do to stay safe.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Make sure any fires lit in recent days or weeks, including fire pits and other outdoor fires, are fully extinguished. Soak it. Stir it. Soak it again.

๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Check your bushfire plan and prepare your property.

๐Ÿ”ฅ If you do see any signs of fire re-igniting such as smoke and flames, call Triple Zero (000).

๐Ÿ“ฑ Keep up to date with warnings and information on the TasALERT app or at TasALERT.com, or by listening to ABC Local Radio.

๐Ÿ“œFire Permits are in place across the state, call 1800 000 699 to apply for a permit.
