Cara Miller is the CEO of North Eastern Community Hospital and one of the . Her leadership has changed the direction of the hospital to ensure its sustainability into the future. Her aim is to have the best service for the community in a caring, kind and compassionate way.

On Monday night she spoke about her journey towards this most important role at the volunteers at the Annual Service Clubs dinner. Funds were raised for the hospital towards buying up to date equipment to ensure care continues to meet modern standards. .

The numbers in the photos below tell the story about demand and capacity for soccer in Campbelltown. Hundreds of families missing out and pitches unable to increase usage, training time and exercise being lost.

Sportsgrounds are primarily for sport which local government has a legal responsibility to provide as it builds community and the health of the community. .

Over recent years Campbelltown City Council (SA) has focussed on equity for all members of the community at its various facilities. The work is ongoing for tennis and netball. Upgrades have occurred at the Athelstone tennis club, and at Daly Oval club rooms. Rostrevor Tennis Club and Campbelltown Tennis and Netballl Clubrooms are two projects requiring additional funding for courts and/or facilities..

Soccer clubrooms have facilities that recognise the need for women friendly change rooms, toilets and showers.

The questions and answers captured in the photographs taken from this week’s council agenda show why the state and federal governments have chosen to concentrate on increasing the capacity of children to play soccer in our area at this time.

The growth in players is a reflection of two phenomena - the growth in the number of children and a population that loves soccer as a sport. The various local soccer clubs all cater for different levels of skill and age. The space limitations mean clubs are desperate for alternative pitches which will allow player safety and extended periods of use.

The soccer clubs cooperate with Aussie Rules as far as possible as their ovals can become mud parks in winter. They can train on all weather pitches at soccer grounds - if there is capacity. Resting football ovals during the week makes preparations for the cricket season less costly for council. It also makes for a better experience for players.

The current soccer pitches are at capacity. We have no more opportunities to expand facilities as land is too expensive. Council has negotiated additional playing space at a local school to assist but it still leaves children on the sidelines. Demand will continue to increase as backyards become smaller. Children need a reason to get out and play in organised sports rather than stay on devices.

⚠️Night works notice – Lower North East Road, Campbelltown

As part of the Campbelltown Village Streetscape upgrade, night works will be commencing along Lower North East Road, Campbelltown.

Works onsite will be between 7 pm and 6 am, from Sunday 30 August 2026 and will continue through to Friday 25 September 2026.

Night works are being undertaken to minimise disruption to traffic and the surrounding community during peak daytime periods. To support the efficient delivery of the construction program, daytime works will continue concurrently. This approach will ensure the site remains appropriately monitored and secure throughout the construction period.

Residents and businesses in the vicinity will be notified of the upcoming works via letter drops. Variable Message Boards (electronic messaging boards) will also be placed onsite to provide ongoing information regarding the works.

Every effort will be made to minimise noise, disruption and inconvenience to residents and businesses.

To safely undertake these works, speed and lane restrictions will be in place. Please plan your trips, exercise caution around workers, and follow directional signage.

In the local paper today there is an article focussing on how much Campbelltown City Council (SA) pays its CEO.

The CEO received a glowing report from a range of people as part of his annual performance review. In this week’s council agenda the list of state and federal government funding shows that he and his team have successfully won the equivalent of 5.51%, 9.09%, and 8.38% rate increase if council had paid for these projects out of ratepayer funds over the past three financial years. We would not have the facilities we see today at Paradise Recreation Plaza and Playford Road without these funds.

The council has been a trusted and consistent partner for state and federal government. Some of these funds were granted after clubs have sweated over applications which includes two that are up for debate at Tuesday’s council meeting. One issue new surface for an all weather pitch for Eastern United FC and the other is for a new all weather pitch at Campbelltown City Soccer & Social Club. The two together account for the equivalent of about 7% of rates for this financial year. Forward planning is required because of the thousands of hours being lost in training time and the waiting lists of 316 families over the grounds.

A bonus on top of the financial savings is the strong focus on physical and mental health which comes from being part of a team, a club and the strong community values developed at these clubs.

The first requires council to match the funding. The second is total funding which council needs to agree to implement.
The total in grant funding for these three financial years is close to $17,000,000. The increase in wages for the CEO is $21,887.

The article focuses on cost. The council focusses on value.
