NTEU members took to the streets today and marched for Trans Day of Visibility.

Just like we stood on the picket lines for gender affirmation leave during the recent strikes at USyd. We won't be silent when a trans student is threatened with being deported to danger for expressing solidarity with Palestine. Full solidarity with all of our trans comrades across the world.

Scrap the campus access policy, free Luna, and full trans liberation now ✊

Rain, hail or shine we’ll be marching for trans liberation today. See you all in Pride Square Newtown at 2pm!

Rain, hail or shine we’ll be marching for trans liberation today. See you all in Pride Square Newtown at 2pm!

Rank And File Action is proud to endorse this Sunday’s Trans Day of Visibility rally.

Trans liberation is inseparable from working class struggle and we stand in solidarity with our trans comrades, whether it be in the streets or on the picket line.

Attempts by right wing forces to widen a damaging culture war against the community must be opposed.

We encourage all NTEU members to join our bloc this Sunday at 2pm in Pride Square Newtown where we’ll be waving our NTEU flags high.

NTEU members can find other rallies across the country via Pride in Protests social pages.

Israel has officially resumed bombing and starving Gaza. Over 2 million human lives are under threat.

Sydney University has ties with Israeli universities, militaries, and weapons companies like Thales and Lockheed Martin - all of which are perpetuating Israel's apartheid regime and its genocidal war on Palestinians.

The university wants to silence us but we won't stop fighting until all ties with genocide are cut and Palestine is Free.

STATEMENT 05/03/2025

News broke this morning that a transgender international student from Malaysia is being threatened with suspension by University of Sydney management for pro-Palestine activism.

The student, 'Luna', is alleged to have written "from the river to the sea Palestine will be free" on a whiteboard with a marker. Under the strict University's Campus Access Policy (CAP), Luna has been threatened with suspension. As she is currently on a student visa, this suspension could lead to her deportation.

This is a shameful demonstration of the University's commitment to punishing even the slightest act of protest against the University's continued partnership with companies complicit in genocide against Palestinians.

On the 26th of February, a meeting of USyd branch of the National Tertiary Education Union saw our membership vote to oppose the curtailing of political freedoms on University campuses. We call on the University of Sydney branch of the NTEU to stand in solidarity with Luna and all students who continue to protest against the University's Zionist policies in spite of these ridiculous guidelines.

We further call for the University of Sydney to scrap the Campus Access Policy.

The new proposed FASS Workload Allocation Policy will be put to a vote of academic staff at a 12pm Webinar on Wednesday 20th November.
You must attend in order to vote.

The NTEU is calling for a no vote, on the basis the policy entrenches overwork and wage theft, and contains cherry-picked proposals, overriding several recommendations of the local workload committee over the past 5 years.

Vote no, to a policy with:
• No recognition of increased workloads since drafted in 2016
• No change to non-evidence based 4,500 words/hour marking rate
• No allocations for academic advisors
• No improvements to preparation hours for new units or new unit coordinators
• Fewer coordination hours than Fos and MH proposed policies
• Two hours for each prepared lecture hour, rather than three in FoS and FMH proposals

NTEU PUBLIC FORUM
Campus political freedom and the new McCarthyism Critique and protest at the university since October 7.

Featuring Wendy Bacon (UTS), Ihab Shalbak (USyd), Mohamed Duar (Amnesty International), Naama Carlin (Jewish Council of Australia and UNSW).

Basic democratic rights have been dangerously restricted at the University of Sydney since October last year. Organised by the National Tertiary Education, this public forum will discuss the McCarthyist regime that university authorities are imposing on staff and students, and its consequences for academic freedom, freedom of assembly, and political freedom in general.
