Congratulations to Our Award Recipients!

At our recent Presentation Night, Camperdown Fire Brigade came together with friends, family, and fellow emergency service members to recognise and celebrate the dedication, commitment, and service of our volunteers.

This year, we had the privilege of presenting service awards to members reaching milestones from 10 years through to 45 years of service. We were also honoured to see 11 of our members awarded the National Medal, recognising their long and diligent service to the community through emergency services.
The evening also included the presentation of our Firefighter of the Year Award, recognising an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Brigade through their dedication, commitment, and service over the past year.

A special acknowledgement was also made to Bernie Sinnott for his remarkable 40 years of service as Brigade Secretary. Reaching such a milestone is an extraordinary achievement and reflects decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to the ongoing success of the Camperdown Fire Brigade.

These awards represent countless hours of training, responding to emergencies, supporting the community, and helping keep Camperdown and the surrounding district safe. Each milestone is a testament to the commitment of our volunteers and the support of their families and loved ones.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, National Medal recipients, our Firefighter of the Year, and Bernie on his outstanding milestone.

Thank you for your service, dedication, and commitment to our Brigade and community.

💬 If a fire started in your home tonight, would your smoke alarms wake you?

08/05/2026

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.
In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

Our second call for the weekend saw the Camperdown Pumper paged last night to assist at a structure fire at Ridleys Feed Mill in Terang.

Upon arrival, our crew worked alongside Terang and other neighboring brigades to manage the incident. Due to the heavy smoke and internal conditions, our members donned Breathing Apparatus (BA) to gain access, locate the source of the fire, and successfully extinguish it.

This afternoon, the Camperdown FCV (Forward Command Vehicle) was deployed to assist local crews at a blue gum plantation fire in the Simpson area.

The FCV provides a vital communication and management hub on the fireground, helping to keep our crews coordinated and safe during these incidents.

Today’s activity is a timely reminder that fire risk doesn't disappear just because the Fire Danger Period has ended. The last few days of unseasonably warm temperatures and dry winds have kept the landscape vulnerable, proving that fires can still start and spread quickly in these conditions.

19/04/2026

The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will officially end at 1.00 am on Monday, 20 April in the following municipalities within CFA’s District 5 and 6.

Southern Grampians Shire Council
Moyne Shire Council
Warrnambool City Council
Colac Otway Shire Council
Corangamite Shire Council

It has been a long and challenging fire season and as we head into autumn there is still fire risk with several areas remaining dry.

As fire restrictions begin to lift, CFA is urging residents to remain alert as the current and continued conditions can still lead to grassfires even in cooler weather.

CFA Deputy Chief Officer South West Region Adrian Gutsche said the easing of restrictions was due to a number of favourable factors in these areas.

“Cooler temperatures and some welcomed rainfall has helped reduce overall fire risk,” Adrian said.

“However, even with milder weather we still want landowners to take precautions and ensure conditions are safe before burning off, and that someone is in attendance at all times to monitor the burn.

“Registering your burn-off means that if smoke is reported, it can be quickly cross-checked to help avoid unnecessary call-outs for CFA crews.”

Residents travelling to other parts of Victoria are reminded to remain vigilant and to check the Fire Danger Periods that are in place in the region they are residing.

With the end of the FDP, some landowners may choose to burn-off, but it’s essential to take precautions and ensure conditions are safe before proceeding.

To prevent unnecessary emergency callouts, landowners must register their burn-offs. If smoke or fire is reported, it will be cross-checked with the register to avoid an emergency response.

Burn-offs can be registered online at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 668 511.

Where possible, landowners should also notify neighbours and those nearby who may be sensitive to smoke.

Burn-off safety checklist
▪️ Check fire restrictions in your area and register your burn-off.
▪️ Monitor weather conditions, especially wind.
▪️ Notify neighbours to prevent unnecessary emergency calls.
▪️ Maintain a three-metre firebreak, clear of flammable materials.
▪️ Have enough equipment and water to contain the fire.
▪️ Never leave a burn-off unattended – stay until it is fully extinguished.
▪️ If your burn-off gets out of control, call 000 immediately.

Rain, hail, or sunshine—we still train! 🌧️☀️

This week, the brigade split into two groups to sharpen our skills across town.

Our three newest members headed down to the saleyards in the tanker. They were put through their paces with the basics: operating the pump, rolling out hoses, and tackling a mock grass fire, before finishing off with a standard burnover drill.

Meanwhile, the second crew took the pumper out to test fire plugs around town. This was a great chance for some hands-on pumper training while comparing water mains pressure—noting the difference between the levels up near the caravan park versus down by the high school.

Great work by everyone involved in keeping our skills sharp and our community safe!
Interested in joining? Come on down to the fire station on a Thursday night at 7:30pm or apply online at cfa.vic.gov.au/volunteers.

🚒 CAMPERDOWN GROUP - HOT FIRE DRILLS
A huge shout-out to the three members from our brigade who made the trip up to the Penshurst training ground this past Saturday! It was a fantastic day of learning and skill-building alongside others from across the Camperdown Group.
It was a milestone day for two of our newest members, marking their first time at the facility. From all reports, they had a brilliant time and walked away with plenty of new knowledge.
The day was packed with:
Hot Fire Drills and skills refreshing.
Valuable Incident Controller experience.
Plenty of smiles and teamwork!
A massive thank you to volunteer instructors Nathan Hill, Jason Clarke, and Marvin Chew for leading such an engaging and productive session. We’re proud to see our members putting in the work to stay sharp for our community.

🔥 Camperdown FEM Program – Supporting Your Local CFA 🚒

Did you know your fire equipment servicing can directly support the Camperdown Fire Brigade?

Through the Fire Equipment Maintenance (FEM) Program, local businesses and residents can ensure their fire protection equipment is compliant, while also giving back to the volunteers who protect our community.

👇 Check out the range of equipment we can supply and service below.

💙 How It Works
FEM is a CFA initiative that provides supply, installation, and servicing of fire safety equipment. What makes it different is that profits are reinvested straight back into local brigades — including Camperdown.

🚒 Local Service Provider
In our area, FEM services are delivered by Wormald Fire Protection Specialists.

🔧 Services Available • Fire extinguisher supply and servicing
• Hose reels, hoses, and fire blankets
• Installation of compliant fire safety equipment
• Hydrostatic testing and ongoing maintenance

🛠️ Supporting Camperdown CFA
Funds raised through the FEM Program have helped our brigade invest in:
• Thermal imaging equipment for firefighting
• Protek branches and Duraline hoses
• Support toward a Forward Command Vehicle (FCV)
• Planned station upgrades in 2026

👏 Why Choose FEM?
Because every service not only protects your workplace or home — it also strengthens your local emergency response.
