A Melbourne man has been charged for his alleged links to an international crime group conspiring to import tonnes of illicit drugs into Australia.

The Victorian Joint Organised Crime Taskforce (JOCTF) executed search warrants at residences in Victoria last week seizing 2.15kg of he**in, 3.28kg of m**h, approximately $80,000 AUD in cash, and cash counting machine.

The man, 36, was arrested at a West Footscray property and has been charged with serious drug offences. He is facing a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, if convicted.

This arrest is the latest in a long running investigation, code-named Operation Bruce-Cremorne, into a syndicate accused of seeking to import illicit drugs from a commercial vessel passing through the Bass Strait. The investigation also identified high level domestic trafficking of illicit drugs.

Nine people aged between 31 and 72 were arrested in April, 2026 as part of the ongoing operation.

Two Sydney men have been charged as part of an ongoing joint-agency investigation into a trusted insider network operating within Sydney’s cargo ports.

Multi Agency Strike Team (MAST) investigators linked the alleged trusted insider network to multiple plots to import commercial quantities illicit drugs through Port Botany between February and October 2025.

Police will allege the network facilitated attempts to access more than one tonne of illicit drugs concealed in shipping containers, including co***ne hidden in consignments from Chile, Colombia, Jamaica, Europe, and South America.

In May 2026, investigators charged five alleged trusted insiders over a failed 506kg co***ne importation, with further arrests occurring in Chile, where six people were charged over their alleged roles in relation to a 58kg co***ne plot detected before the drugs reached Australia.

Ongoing inquiries identified a Condell Park man, 26, allegedly took part in the retrieval of 140kg of border-controlled drugs in May, 2025, from the roof cavity of a refrigerated container.

It will be alleged an Oran Park man, 35, was a forklift operator who allegedly commenced a criminal association with the syndicate coordinator and assisted with the retrieval of 120kg of border-controlled drugs in June, 2025.

The men face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if convicted.

✈️ No plane days in Mackay - building partnerships in aviation in regional Queensland ✈️

AFP Airport Uniform Police and Canine members from Cairns have enjoyed a flying visit to Mackay Airport working with partner agencies in a dedicated deployment focused on aviation security, high-visibility policing, compliance, stakeholder engagement and canine screening operations.

AFP members worked closely with Mackay Airport management, Queensland Police Service Tactical Crime Squad and canine, and Australian Border Force Officers.

Throughout the deployment, the members conducted foot patrols through the domestic terminal and surrounding precinct. Officers also completed ASIC compliance activities, including 107 checks of airport staff, contractors and aviation operators, with everyone found to be compliant.

Canine members conducted sweeps of the area, including screening points, domestic departures and arrivals, passenger carousels, boarding gates, charter flights and general aviation areas.

This successful engagement with our partner agencies strengthens our collaborative efforts towards safety and security at airports across Australia.

More than $580,000 has been forfeited to the Commonwealth as suspected proceeds of crime following an AFP-led investigation into an immigration visa fraud scheme linked to a Central Coast man, 61.

The forfeiture action stems from a complex, multi-agency investigation into the exploitation of Australia’s immigration visa system and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.

Financial analysis conducted during the investigation identified hundreds of thousands of dollars linked to the suspected offending. This included payments to bank accounts associated with the man suspected to be for his services facilitating applications for immigration visas that contained false information. Some of these proceeds of crime payments were used to acquire other property.

The AFP-led Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce took action to restrain and pursue the confiscation of these funds and tainted property on the basis they were reasonably suspected to be the proceeds of the man’s offending.

These funds will be placed into the Confiscated Assets Account, where they can be redistributed to support crime prevention initiatives, law enforcement capabilities, and programs that benefit the Australian community.

AFP Protective Service Officer (PSO) Mike takes us on a bike patrol!

Mike is a PSO at the Pine Gap Joint Defence Facility near Alice Springs. PSOs use all types of transport to conduct patrols around protected facilities – on foot, in vehicles and even two wheels!

Bikes are used when a location is too tight or hard to access by car but would take too long to search on foot. Added bonus – getting paid to do cardio!

Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚲

Talk about being in the right spot at the right time! 🐾

AFP Senior Constable Jeff and AFP Constable Grace were driving to Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal to train their two AFP canines when they noticed a woman in distress on the side of the road.

They pulled over to assist her and learned she was searching for her friend’s dalmatian puppy, which had escaped from a car.

The frightened puppy had been spotted running across the four-lane road outside the airport, so the team grabbed their spare leashes, collars and treats, ready to help.

Although food failed to lure the puppy away from a nearby creek, Constable Grace pressed on, wading waist-deep through mud and stagnant water to bring the distressed pup to safety.

It was a ruff situation, with a very happy ending!
