Considering an electric vehicle (EV) but unsure of what’s fact and fiction? 🤔

Welcome back to ‘Get the facts’, the mini series addressing common misconceptions about EVs.

Get the facts on EV chargers. ⚡ 🔌

Around 80% of Australians charge their EVs at home. 🏡

At home, charging can occur via a:
• standard power outlet
• dedicated EV charger

Charging from a standard power outlet might sound unusual, but it’s just like charging everyday devices like your phone. 📱🔌

A standard power outlet can:
• be the cheapest option to charge your EV, especially if you can take advantage of off-peak electricity rates or rooftop solar
• take up to 24 hours for a full charge
• be ideal for daily top-ups and overnight charging.

Installing a dedicated EV charger offers:
• added convenience
• 3 to 10 times faster charging than a standard outlet
• smart charging to charge when electricity prices are lowest.

If you live in a strata property, EV owners can request permission from their managing strata body to install charging infrastructure on-site. 🏢

On the road, EV drivers can use public charging stations. Depending on charger capacity, DC fast chargers can add 50 to 200 km of range in 10 minutes, helping you get back on the road quickly. 🚗

Make the switch to LEDs this (Saturday 15 May) for real energy savings.

Read more 🔗 energyrating.gov.au/consumer-information/products/lighting

Most lights in Australia must meet minimum energy performance standards (MEPS). 💡

MEPS exist to help households and businesses:
• lower energy use and costs. ⚡
• reduce emissions. 🍃

They currently apply to the following:
• incandescent lamps (including halogens)
• compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs)
• double‑capped fluorescent lamps
• light emitting diode (LED) lamps

Over time inefficient lamps (like incandescent, halogen and CFLs) are being phased out where LED alternatives are available. 🔄

Why? Because LEDs use around 75% less energy than halogen bulbs and last 5 to 10 times longer, helping to reduce:
• running costs. ⚡
• waste sent to landfill. 🗑️
