Take the guesswork out of going electric with a personalised plan for your home.

The Make Your Next Choice Electric tool helps Canberra households to:
• Build a personalised timeline for replacing gas appliances
• Understand the upfront costs of electric upgrades
• See estimated annual energy cost savings from going electric.

The tool also showcases the latest energy efficient electric heating, hot water and cooking appliances, independently reviewed through consumer advocacy group CHOICE.

Upgrade when the time is right; the best time to go electric is when appliances break or reach end of life.

Making the switch can future proof your home ahead of the ACT’s energy transition from fossil fuel gas – and may save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars on energy costs each year.

🚧 Coppins Crossing Road closure 🚧

The new Molonglo River Bridge will significantly enhance connectivity across the Molonglo region and improve travel between the western suburbs, including Denman Prospect and Whitlam.

To allow work on the bridge to proceed safely, from 2am on Monday 15 June to 6pm on Wednesday 17 June (weather permitting):
• Coppins Crossing Road between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue, will be fully closed in both directions. This closure is required to install safety rails and screens on the southbound side of the bridge.
👷 Detours will be in place:
• Southbound from Belconnen: From William Hovell Drive, take the off ramp to Parkes Way and merge onto Tuggeranong Parkway.
• Northbound from Molonglo Valley: From John Gorton Drive, turn onto Cotter Road then follow the ramp onto Tuggeranong Parkway, and take the left exit at Glenloch interchange to merge onto William Hovell Drive.
Further contingency days are planned for the remainder of next week if the work is unable to be completed by Wednesday 17 June.

🚧 Commonwealth Avenue closures 🚧

Sections of Commonwealth Avenue will be closed at times in June to allow for critical works to extend Canberra’s light rail network from the city to Commonwealth Park.

From 8pm Thursday 11 June to 5am Monday 15 June (weather permitting), Commonwealth Avenue northbound will be closed between the Parkes Way off-ramp and Vernon Circle. Detours will be in place.

From 8pm Friday 12 June to 5am Monday 15 June (weather permitting), Albert Street West will be closed. During this time, access to Albert Street East will remain open.

Further contingency days are planned for the following week if the work is unable to be completed due to wet weather.

Visit the city centre this July for a free, family-friendly festival packed with circus acts, fire shows and wonderful winter vibes 🔥🎪

What you need to know:
🕒 When: Wednesday 8 July to Saturday 18 July 2026. Events happening daily from 3:30pm to 7:45pm (no shows on Monday 13 July)
📍 Where: City Walk (near Petrie Plaza and the merry-go-round)
💲 Cost: Free. No tickets needed.

What to expect:
🎭 Circus Oz performance kicking things off daily at 3:30pm
🔥 Fire performances at 5:30pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm
🍫 Hot choc and marshmallows, mulled wine and more
🍽️ Surrounded by your favourite city eateries

The ACT Government will remove stamp duty for all first home buyers as part of the 2026–27 Budget, making ACT the first jurisdiction in Australia to do this.

Stamp duty exemptions will also be expanded to support pensioners, eligible National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, and anyone who hasn’t owned a property in the past five years.

To help deliver more medium-density homes as part of 'Missing Middle', the government will introduce tax cuts and planning changes, including:
• Removing stamp duty on new unit-titled homes bought by owner-occupiers
• Extending concessions to newly built units not sold off-the-plan
• Launching the Canberra House Pattern Book, with pre-approved designs for ‘missing middle’ homes

The investments in housing all form part of providing more access to homes for Canberrans.

The 2026–2027 ACT Budget will support a range of tourism and events initiatives - helping to grow Canberra's visitor economy by up to $1 billion by 2030.

The investments will:
• Attract more major events to increase visitation, fill hotels, and boost hospitality and retail.
• Expand the Major Event Fund to build a stronger year-round events pipeline.
• Expand Floriade for its 40th anniversary in 2027, extending opening hours and encouraging longer stays.
• Progress city shaping projects, including the new National Convention and Entertainment Centre and the new 2,000-seat lyric theatre opening in 2028.
• Secure international cricket fixtures for both men’s and women’s competitions.

The Budget also includes investment in destination marketing, supporting targeted efforts to further promote Canberra to priority domestic and international audiences, along with funding to support tourism industry development activities.

The investments will grow the visitor economy, strengthen Canberra's national and international profile, and support jobs across tourism, hospitality and events.

Canberra’s newest public school will be named Whitlam School in honour of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam.

Felicity Levitt has also been appointed as the foundation principal of Whitlam School.

The first stage of the new Early Childhood to Year 6 school will open for Term 1 in 2027.

Whitlam School will cater for up to 780 students from preschool to year 6 for the growing number of families in the Molonglo Valley. Planning for the Early Childhood Education and Care Centre is underway and will be developed in a future stage.

The ACT Government is investing in more social, public, community and affordable homes as part of the 2026–27 ACT Budget.

The investment progresses the commitment to grow the ACT Government’s public housing portfolio to 13,200 homes and deliver an additional 5,000 public, community affordable homes by the end of 2030.

It includes:
• A new Public Housing Pipeline program to build and buy an additional 450 new more public homes, helping Canberrans move into homes sooner
• A loan guarantee program to help community housing providers get projects started, delivering more than 1,000 affordable homes in the ACT through the Housing Australia Future Fund
• Extra funding over four years for existing public housing to improve repairs and maintenance
• New crisis and transitional housing for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, delivered in partnership with the Commonwealth
• Support for Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations to deliver social and affordable housing, including help with applications through the First Nations stream of the Housing Australia Future Fund

The ACT Government is taking further action on climate change in the 2026–27 ACT Budget, with investment in clean energy and support to help Canberrans manage cost-of-living pressures.

Protecting the natural environment, improving biodiversity and using water more efficiently remain key priorities, alongside the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2045.

The investments will include:
• Extending rebates through the Home Energy Support Program to help homeowners pay for rooftop solar and other energy-saving upgrades
• Increasing loan limits under the Sustainable Household Scheme, making it easier for households to invest in energy-efficient upgrades or buy a new or used electric vehicle
• Providing extra funding to local environment groups, including ACT Wildlife, the National Parks Association and Landcare ACT, to support climate resilience and biodiversity projects
• Expanding the ACT Environment Grants program so more community groups can deliver environmental restoration and education projects
• Funding a response team, systems and vehicles to strengthen the ACT’s ability to respond to biosecurity risks at both local and national levels
