Did you know that streets in Whitlam celebrate trailblazers in Australian arts and culture? Maggie Scott Terrace is named after Dame Margaret (Maggie) Scott, a ballet dancer, teacher and co-founder of The Australian Ballet company. 🩰

She was instrumental in shaping the future of Australian dance. She was appointed Dame Commander (DBE) in 1981 and Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2005.

She famously returned to the stage in Graeme Murphy’s ‘Nutcracker’ at the age of 78.

💃🏼 From dancers to choreographers, Whitlam’s street names honour the remarkable people whose dedication to arts and culture have enriched Australia’s cultural landscape.

Did you know streets in Whitlam are named after people who have made a significant contribution to arts and culture in Australia?

Gabori Street is named after late Mirdidingkingathi Sally Gabori, a contemporary Indigenous artist and Kaiadilt woman. 🎨

Having began painting at the age of 81, Gabori’s artwork beautifully captures her life and cultural memory. Her brushwork is distinct from traditional forms of Aboriginal painting that focus on storytelling through dot painting. 🌏🎨

🖌️ From painters to poets, dancers to puppet makers, Whitlam’s street names reflect the incredible contribution arts and culture make to society.
