The High Commission was honored to host the House Business Committee (HBC) of the National Assembly of Kenya during their benchmarking and working visit to Australia from 10th to 17th May 2026, aimed at strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and enhancing institutional cooperation between the Parliament of Kenya and the Parliament of Australia.
The delegation was led by Hon. Omboko Milemba, CBS, MP, Member of the Speakers Panel, Hon. Robert Mbui, CBS, MP- Minority Party Whip, Hon. Millie Odhiambo, CBS, MP- Minority Whip, Hon. Joshua Mwalyo, MP, Member House Business Committee, Hon. Tom Joseph Kajwang, CBS, MP, Member, House Business Committee, and senior parliamentary officials. The delegation was received by H.E. Dr. Wilson Kogo, High Commissioner accompanied by staff at the High Commission.
A key component of the visit was the formal engagement at the Parliament of Australia on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, where the delegation held discussions with officials of the House Procedure Office and benchmarked on various aspects of parliamentary procedure, legislative scheduling, and management of House business in a bicameral parliamentary system.
As part of the programme, the delegation toured Parliament House, observed Question Time proceedings in both the Senate Chamber and the House of Representatives Chamber, and interacted with Australian parliamentary officials and legislators.
The delegation was also hosted for a luncheon by Senator the Hon. Sue Lines, President of the Senate of Australia, together with the Hon. Milton Dick MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, which underscored the warm and growing parliamentary relations between Kenya and Australia.
Another key highlight of the visit was the engagement with the Australia–Kenya Parliamentary Country Group during an afternoon tea session held at Parliament House. The interaction provided an opportunity to strengthen parliamentary friendship ties and explore avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
