Thank you to all who joined us on the Australian premiere of the documentary “Ramón y Cajal: Drawings on the retina” (by Zerkalo Films and Filmociencia) as part of the 2026 Science Movie Festival during the National Science Week ACT 🇪🇸🇦🇺

The evening was an occasion to celebrate the significance of for modern science. On World Photography Day 📸, the documentary showed the importance that Ramón y Cajal gave to drawing and photography in his research, transforming what was invisible to the naked eye into images that showed the fascinating architecture of our nervous system 🎞️🧠🔬

Special thanks to Professor John Bekkers (Head of the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience, The John Curtin School of Medical Research - JCSMR The Australian National University) and Professor Luis Salvador-Carulla (Deputy Director of the Health Research Institute at the University of Canberra) who started the event with a conversation on how the work of Ramón y Cajal is still relevant today, 120 years after he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

The Embassy of Spain in Australia was honoured to be invited to open the Australian Friends of the Camino Conference 2026 in the Sunshine Coast last weekend. In her speech, the Ambassador, Ms Esther Monterrubio Villar, described the lesser-known route of Vía de la Plata, which stretches from the South to the Northwest, and attended panels and presentations by people who have walked El Camino not once but several times and are real experts. The Australian Friends of the Camino are a great community who share information about the cultural landscape of Spain and the values of this particular pilgrimage.
Thank you for your enthusiasm in sustaining the links between Australia and Spain.
