The final community-based AusAlert test is happening on Sunday 21 June 2026 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales. 📱

Here’s what you need to know. 👇

A test AusAlert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices between Yass Road, Silva Avenue, Faunce Street and Aurora Avenue in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area at around 2:00 pm on Sunday 21 June 2026.

If you are near the test area with a compatible mobile device, you may receive the alert.

This is a cross-border test. If you live in the Australian Capital Territory, you may also receive the alert. ⚠️

Devices may vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. An AusAlert may appear on your device screen. It will clearly say it is a test. You don't need to do anything.

There will also be a national test on Monday 27 July 2026, at around 2:00 pm AEST. AusAlerts will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia.

AusAlert community testing begins this week. 📱

AusAlert is the new Australian Government national warning system. It will allow Australian emergency service organisations to send targeted, near-instant warning messages to compatible mobile devices during disasters.

AusAlert is being tested in selected communities across all states and territories in June 2026.

Testing locations include:

Applications for Disaster Ready Fund (DRF) Round Four are currently open. 🌱

In Pormpuraaw, a coastal town on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, the airport is a lifeline for the local community. 🛬

During monsoonal events, the Pormpuraaw Aerodrome has historically been prone to flooding, which would cut off the community from emergency services, medical flights, and essential supplies.

In 2023, Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council was awarded funding through Round One of the DRF to strengthen the pavement and improve drainage at the aerodrome.

The upgrade included a full runway rehabilitation, with new gravel laid, graded, and compacted to significantly improve runway strength.

The upgraded airstrip now provides reliable, all‑weather access, reducing the physical and financial impacts of floods and cyclones on the Pormpuraaw community, and minimising disruptions to critical services. 💪

Round 4 of DRF will support more First Nations–led projects that combine knowledge of Country and culture to help communities prepare for, withstand and recover from disasters.
