Nathan Gremmo was just 13 when his life was tragically cut short in a car accident. In the face of unimaginable grief, his family made a courageous and selfless decision to donate Nathan’s organs. That decision saved 6 lives. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

Nathan’s final Instagram post read: ‘You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.’ And he truly did 🩷

In Nathan’s honour, his family launched Jersey Day — a national awareness day encouraging Australians to wear their favourite sporting jersey and start a conversation about organ and tissue donation.

This year, Jersey Day is on Friday 4 September 2026. Find out how you can get involved: https://www.donatelife.gov.au/news-events/events/2026/jersey-day-2026

From the surf on the Gold Coast, to the slopes of Mt Manaslu in Nepal, Tim’s journey after a life saving liver transplant has been nothing short of extraordinary.

He never expected to need a transplant, but after cancer and months on the waitlist Tim received the gift that saved his life. Two years after his transplant, he pushed his limits on one of the world’s highest mountains, facing storms, landslides and 6 days stranded before rescue 🗻

Tim says the experience gave him strength and confidence.

‘It’s me and my liver; we’re in this together.’ 🩷

Now back home, he’s determined to live life to the fullest in honour of his donor.

Most Australians support organ and tissue donation, but only 35% of us are registered.

One organ donor can save up to 7 people and change the lives of many more through eye and tissue donation. So, if you want to be an organ and tissue donor, take a minute to register today and let your family know.

Register as an organ and tissue donor at donatelife.gov.au or through Medicare. Then, tell your family you want to be a donor.

Aaron’s family describes him as the kind of person who always saw the best in people. He loved to dance, ride motorbikes and play football. 🩷

Tragically, at just 20 years old, Aaron was in a serious car accident where he sustained a major brain injury.

‘The doctors explained what brain death was and that Aaron was breathing through a machine,’ Aaron’s mum Michele said.

‘They gave us time to process this and then let us know Aaron may be able to be an organ donor.’

Michele knew Aaron wanted to be an organ donor because they’d discussed it as a family only a few months before he died. He was also registered as an organ and tissue donor.

One conversation could save a life.

Donate Life Week may be over, but the impact of organ donation lasts a lifetime.

For BHFLHN staff member Theresa Tucker, the impact of donation is deeply personal.

Theresa, Day Centre Coordinator at Gumeracha and Mount Pleasant and Volunteer Coordinator at Mount Barker Hospital, donated a kidney to her daughter Hannah almost four years ago. Hannah had previously received two heart transplants.

Today, Hannah has returned to full-time work, enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is preparing to compete in this year's Australian Transplant Games.

"I feel incredibly blessed and deeply grateful for these moments because there was a very real time when they weren't guaranteed," Hannah said.

"Even now, when I feel healthy and well, I'm still aware of how fragile life can be. It shapes the way I choose to live. I say yes to opportunities, make time for the people I love and try not to postpone joy."

For Theresa, sharing their story is about helping others understand the difference donation can make.

"It is an opportunity to spread the word about organ donation and the gift of life it has given not only to Hannah, but to our whole family," Theresa said.

Thousands of Australians are waiting for a life-saving transplant. Registering as an organ and tissue donor takes just one minute, but it starts with a conversation.

Register your decision and make sure your family knows your wishes.
