🚍🕯️ The Canberra Nara Candle Festival returns to Lennox Gardens on Saturday 24 October 2026.

Leave the car at home and make the most of public transport to get there. Travel by regular Transport Canberra bus and light rail services, then connect to the event, or take advantage of the free shuttle bus operating from 3:45pm to 9:45pm.

You can also walk, ride or scoot to the festival using the shared paths around Lake Burley Griffin.

Whether you're visiting to enjoy the stunning candle displays, cultural performances or delicious food, we've got your journey covered.

We're recruiting a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join Transport Canberra's Fleet Services team.

Every day, our Heavy Vehicle Mechanics play an important role in keeping Canberra connected. Working across a fleet of more than 450 buses and other essential vehicles, you'll carry out maintenance and repairs that help ensure our fleet is safe, reliable and ready for service.

From diagnosing faults and completing repairs to supporting fleet improvement projects and mentoring apprentices, no two days are the same. You'll work alongside a skilled team and contribute to services that thousands of Canberrans rely on every day.

Give buses room to turn ↪️🏍️🚌

Did you know buses often need to swing wide to safely navigate corners and intersections?

For motorcyclists, it can be tempting to move into a gap beside a turning bus, but that space is there for a reason. Entering it can place you in the driver's blind spot and increase the risk of a collision.

This motorcycle awareness month:

✅ Never attempt to pass a turning bus
✅ Stay visible and be patient at intersections
✅ Allow extra space around large vehicles when they're manoeuvring

Giving buses the room they need helps keep motorcyclists, bus passengers and everyone else on the road safe.

There will be no light rail services from the first service on Saturday 31 October to the last service on Sunday 1 November 2026. This is due to critical construction works for Light Rail Stage 2A.
🚌 Rail replacement buses, operated by CDC Canberra will be operating in both directions along the entire light rail corridor between Alinga Street and Gungahlin Place during this time.
There will be no impacts to regular Transport Canberra bus services in the city, with no planned changes to the City Interchange or to the platform layout for the duration of the works.
🚶The pedestrian crossings south of Alinga Street light rail stop will be temporarily closed from 8pm Friday 30 October until 6am Monday 2 November. Pedestrians, including users of the City Interchange, will be directed to cross at the Rudd/Bunda Street intersection to the north, or London Circuit to the south.
Customers are encouraged to listen to PA announcements, follow wayfinding signage, and allow extra time to travel during this period.

Today is the first day of the new school term which means dedicated school services, including the school diversions, have resumed!

So how are your kids getting to school during week 1? There are plenty of options including:

🚴Walk, ride or scoot to school
🚍School bus or public transport
🚗Carpool

If you are driving around schools, remember that 40 km/h school zones are back in place. Slow down, drive and park safely, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.

Our electric buses can recharge in around 6 to 7 hours before returning to the network and travelling up to 350km a day.

That's roughly the equivalent of travelling from Canberra to:
🏖️ Batemans Bay (147km)
🌊 Wollongong (240km)
🏙️ Sydney (290km)

Not bad for a bus that spends the night plugged in. 😏🔋🚌

Every day, our L**e and Safety Inspectors play an important role in keeping Canberra's bus fleet safe, roadworthy and ready for service. Working behind the scenes, they supervise Trade Assistants, coordinate workshop activities, conduct vehicle inspections and provide technical advice that helps keep our fleet operating at its best.

From maintaining vehicle safety and serviceability to supporting workshop operations and ensuring work is completed to a high standard, this role helps keep our buses on the road and our community connected.

✅ Lead and support a team of Trade Assistants
