Today we celebrated one of Australia's most iconic native plants with a special wattle planting.

Wattle welcomes in spring, as it paints our national colours across our landscapes.

Commonwealth Park will continue to have wattle blossom and grow as our staff added an additional 15 trees amongst other wattle plantings.

🚶‍♀️ Pedestrian upgrades coming to John Dunmore Lang Place!

Construction on new pedestrian infrastructure between John Dunmore Lang Place and Federation Plaza will begin in the coming weeks.

The upgrades will improve accessibility, safety and connectivity between some of Canberra's key national attractions and commemorative sites, including Commonwealth Place, Reconciliation Place, the National Rose Gardens, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy and Old Parliament House (Museum of Australian Democracy).

What's included?
✅ New pedestrian paths through John Dunmore Lang Place and Federation Plaza
✅ A new path along King Edward Terrace between Parkes Place East and West
✅ Two new raised pedestrian crossings with lighting.

Construction is expected to take approximately 6 months with completed sections progressively opened to the public. Temporary fencing, pedestrian detours and traffic management measures will be in place during the works.

🏗️ Major milestone achieved at Commonwealth Avenue Bridge!

We’ve successfully completed bearing replacements at all 4 bridge piers as part of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal Project.

Bridge bearings play a critical role in supporting the structure and allowing it to safely expand, contract and move under traffic loads.

We've now progressed to bearing replacements at the bridge abutments, with our team developing an innovative method to remove the existing bearings without the need to lift the bridge. This approach helps mitigate risks to the utilities housed within the structure while keeping works moving efficiently.

🎥 Check out the video to see the bearing replacement process from start to finish. Full version available on our YouTube channel.
