Our mace was visited by quite possibly its biggest fan today! 🤩🏛

We were chuffed to host Christine Erratt at the Assembly this morning. Christine is the author of 'Ceremonial Maces of Australian Parliaments' (2024) - a glossy guide to Australia's symbols of parliamentary authority.

She also signed our copy of the book from the Assembly library!

July 12 is , the anniversary of the Pacific country of Kiribati's independence from the United Kingdom in 1979.

The Assembly has been partnered with the Maneaba ni Maungatabu, Kiribati's national parliament, since 2008, collaborating to build more resilient, sustainable parliaments in both jurisdictions 🏛🛠

Excuse us while we all just take a nap for a few days😴!

Our 2026 Youth Parliament have spent the past few months working on bills, motions and 90-second statements which they presented in the Assembly Chamber this week.

They discussed issues including community third spaces🤝, accessible work experiences📚, housing stability🏠 and healthcare❤️‍🩹. This rad group of humans demonstrated a level of passion and dedication to the program that blew all our socks off💥🧦. We can’t wait to see what is ahead of them in the future🫰🏽!

Thank you to The Y Canberra Region for organising such a fabulous program, we can’t wait to do this all again next year!

👀Stay tuned for information about the 2027 program!
