Happy Mabo Day! Today we remember the 1992 Mabo decision when the High Court of Australia recognised native title. The court acknowledged that Eddie Koiki Mabo, David Passi, Sam Passi, James Rice & Celuia Salee had occupied Mer Island in the Torres Strait before colonial occupation.
That decision recognised that the rights of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander over their lands have survived

The final day of National Reconciliation Week every year is one of the most significant in Australia.

Mabo Day, celebrated annually on 3 June, commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful advocacy to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius, or ‘land belonging to no-one’.

Following the High Court’s Mabo decision, Australia’s Federal Parliament passed the Native Title Act 1993 which established a legal framework for native title claims throughout Australia by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

and Mabo Day are a reminder to be ‘All In’ to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to commit ourselves to reconciliation and the fight for First Nations justice in Australia.

We support the call for Australians to be 'All In' for Reconciliation this week, next week, any week.

27 May also celebrates the anniversary of the 1967 referendum when Australians voted to remove clauses in our Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples

The theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

Terrific to screen Nagana Yarrbyn, a powerful film documenting the Wangan and Jagalingou people’s stand to protect their ancestral waters from the Carmichael mine & continue to practice culture on their land.
Thanks to W&J adviser Anthony Esposito for an insightful Q&A after the screening. The Water Protectors is the first time the W&J have been able to ‘tell their own story’ about their fight to protect the ancient Doongmabulla Springs

National Sorry Day 2026 marks the 29th anniversary of the landmark Bringing Them Home report about the Stolen Generations.
Almost 30 years on, few recommendations from that report have been implemented.
Sorry without action is not enough.
Govts must take urgent steps to create tangible, measurable change for Stolen Generation survivors & their families
