How many native animals must be killed before we admit this policy has failed?

On Wednesday, we stood outside the ACT Legislative Assembly alongside our allies, fellow advocates, and compassionate community members to say enough is enough.

Despite the language used to soften it, the ACT kangaroo "cull" is the mass killing of native animals. Kangaroos are sentient, social beings who belong on this land. Every year, mothers are shot, joeys lose their lives or their families, and entire mobs are disrupted.

We came together to demand better. We refuse to accept cruelty as normal ✊

A huge thank you to Animal Defenders Office, Save Canberra's Kangaroos, Animal Liberation ACT and everyone who attended, spoke up, held signs, and stood in solidarity with Australia's wildlife.

If a policy depends on killing thousands of native animals every year, it is the policy that needs rethinking.

Community update: 45,512 SIGNATURES FOR THE BRUMBIES! 🎉🐴

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU the campaign against the aerial and ground culling of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park continues to grow.

Between the NSW Parliamentary e-petition and the petition led by Animal Justice Party NSW MP Emma Hurst, a combined total of 45,512 signatures have been collected up to date! ✊

To everyone who has signed, shared, commented, contacted MPs, and helped spread the word: thank you so much. Every signature strengthens demonstrates the depth of public concern about the treatment of brumbies.

We also want to address a question we've seen raised recently: yes, we care about brumbies too.

Animal Justice Party ACT has been advocating for animal welfare in all its forms, and we are doing everything within our power to support this campaign. While this issue falls within NSW jurisdiction, we continue to support the work being done by our colleagues in Animal Justice Party NSW and MP Emma Hurst, who has been working tirelessly to raise these concerns in Parliament and push for more humane solutions.

The fight is not over.

The NSW Parliamentary e-petition remains open until 10 November 2026, which means there is still time to build even more public pressure and show decision-makers that Australians expect animal welfare to be taken seriously.

More than 45,500 people have already spoken.

Let's keep going. Share the petition. Talk to your friends and family. Contact your representatives. 🤎

"Today we stood up for Canberra's kangaroos and we won't stop until the annual cull will end." 🦘

Today's action was about hope as much as it was about protest. Every conversation held and every person who stopped to listen is proof that the community cares deeply about protecting our wildlife.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us and shared their support, or simply took the time to learn more about the issue. Change happens when ordinary people decide that cruelty should no longer be considered normal.

The movement to end the kangaroo cull is growing. Together, we can create a future where native wildlife is respected, protected and allowed to live in peace.

Thank you to our dedicated ACT Animal Justice Party representatives Edgar, Gill and Claudia for standing strong for kangaroos today, and our allies Save Canberra's Kangaroos, Animal Liberation ACT, Animal Defenders Office and Animal Protection Alliance 🦘💜

MACROPOD SLAUGHTER 2026 BEGINS TODAY 🩸

Today marks the start of the government‑sanctioned killing of 3,600 macropods across Canberra’s reserves. In the dead of night, in freezing conditions, these gentle animals are shot, and their joeys have their tiny heads “dispatched”, a cold bureaucratic word for a brutal act. 💔

Protests at these sites are banned.
Public scrutiny is shut down.
And this diabolical government continues to hide behind outdated, false claims while lying to the country about the ecological reality.

The so‑called “kangaroo management plan” is embedded in the legislation we fight every single year to challenge, while trying to wake up a disengaged Canberra community to the carnage happening in their own backyard.

We have the science.
We have the ecological research.
We have a recent PhD exposing the truth.
What we don’t have is a barrister willing to take on this legislation pro bono and none in Canberra will.

We need help.
We need someone willing to stand up for these animals and challenge this broken system in court.

Please share this across Australia and internationally! Please help us find a barrister who can take this on.

Contact us. 🤎

🚨 URGENT: STOP THE BRUMBY MASSACRE 🚨

The last few thousands of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park face being shot from helicopters, shot on the ground, or sent to slaughter.

The Animal Justice Party-backed campaign is calling for an immediate end to the shooting of brumbies and increased investment in humane alternatives, including rehoming programs and fertility control. These solutions protect both horses and sensitive ecosystems without resorting to mass killing.

Every signature sends a message that Australians want compassion, not cruelty!

The official NSW Parliament e-petition "Suspend Brumby Culling in Kosciuszko National Park" is currently open to NSW residents and calls for a suspension of aerial and ground culling.

Today is National Animal Rights Day!🐾❤️

Today we honour the billions of animals whose lives are affected by human choices and recognize their right to live free from suffering, exploitation, and harm.

Every animal is someone, not something. Whether they are companions in our homes, wildlife in nature, or animals raised for food, they all share the capacity to feel pain, joy, fear, and love.

National Animal Rights Day is a time to reflect on the world we want to create - one built on compassion, respect, and justice for all beings.

Each of us has the power to make a difference through our daily choices, our voices, and our actions. Together, we can help build a future where animals are valued for who they are, not for what they can provide.

- Speak up.
- Choose compassion.
- Be their voice.

Psssst! Plans are underway to make NARD happen in Canberra in 2027!! 😍
