5,352 native animals. Gone! 💔
THIS MUST STOP!

The ACT Government’s recent cull resulted in the deaths of 5,352 native animals including:

• 3,562 kangaroos
• 1,290 kangaroo joeys
• 344 wallabies
• 156 wallaby joeys

Every single number represents a living, sentient animal: mothers. Babies. Families. Lives cut short.

And for what? We keep repeating the same cycle of killing, year after year, instead of putting serious effort into finding humane, evidence-based ways for people and wildlife to coexist.

There are better options. We should be investing in them.

Take action today and tell your Minister: the killing of our native wildlife must end!

This year’s ACT Government kangaroo killing program is over.

The shooting has stopped. But for thousands of kangaroos and their joeys, there is no recovery.

Behind the number was 3,562 + 1290 joeys. At Mulligans Flat “Sanctuary” 344 wallabies were killed, and 156 joeys. A mother. A joey. A family. They were someone who wanted nothing more than to live.

For eight weeks, advocates returned to Canberra’s nature reserves night after night, documenting what was happening behind closed gates. Despite repeated confrontations with authorities and ongoing scrutiny, they kept coming back.

Together, we captured never-before-seen footage, reached millions of people through social media, rallied outside the Legislative Assembly, and inspired thousands of emails to MLAs demanding change.

We didn’t stop the killing this year. But we made sure it wasn’t hidden.

To every person who stood with us, wrote an email, attended a rally, monitored a reserve, shared a post, or refused to look away, thank you.

The shooting may be over for this year. Our fight isn’t.

For the 3,562 kangaroos, 1290 joeys, 344 wallabies and 156 joeys who never made it home, and for the generations still to come, we will not stop.

Great to hear Tony Jones talk about his new film this evening at Dendy. The film is showing in Canberra tomorrow as well at the Palace. It's a good film by the ABC journalist about animal experimentation in particular on primates. It's deliberately directed and edited not be too confronting to watch - we encourage people to watch it.

Protect Our Eastern Greys Before It’s Too Late!

The recent opinion piece “Why the Eastern Grey kangaroo has no future” published on Canberra CityNews (13 August) paints a grim picture — one that should alarm every Canberran who values coexistence. Comparing our beloved Eastern Greys to the tragic fate of the thylacine isn’t just rhetoric; it’s a warning.

Kangaroos are not pests. They are native icons, integral to our ecosystems and deserving of protection, not persecution. The idea that their “only remaining future is none” reflects a failure of empathy and policy, one we must urgently correct!

We stand for a future where wildlife is respected and not culled. We call on the community and government to embrace humane management, science-based conservation, and a vision of Canberra that celebrates its wildlife, for real!

Let’s ensure the Eastern Grey kangaroo’s story doesn’t end like the thylacine’s. 💔
