AWM History Project: Timor, Iraq & Afghanistan Official History of Australian Operations in Iraq & Afghanistan and Australian Peacekeeping Operations in East Timor.

Since its inception, the Australian War Memorial has sponsored the production of Australia's official war histories. In 2016 the Memorial, with funding from the Australian government, began writing the official history of the most recent conflicts in which Australia has been involved. Timor will cover Australian involvement in Afghanistan (2001-2014), Iraq and the Middle East Area of Operations (2001-2011) and East Timor (1999-2012). This project will not be possible without the input of members of the Australian Defence Force and the Australian government. in 2004, HMAS Stuart oversaw a coalition maritime force response to a terrorist attack on two Iraqi oil terminals in the North Arabian Gulf. During the incident a boat from USS Firebolt was destroyed by a su***de bomb, killing three on board. Stuart’s Seahawk immediately rendered assistance.
