Our visit in PNG continues!

The Polish MFA Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel and Deputy Head of Mission in Canberra Mr Marcin Kawalowski had an excellent opportunity this week to discuss the practical aspects of cooperation between Poland and Papua New Guinea. Based upon its experiences on political, economic and technological transformation since 1989, Poland is ready to share its outstanding achievements, e.g. in broad cyber and digital domains, with such countries as PNG.

This issue, next to geopolitical developments in Europe and Info-Pacific, was the subject of a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Justin Tkatchenko. Always fascinating!

Discussions with the Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Kinoka Hotune Feo, focused on enhancing cooperation in academic domain.

There were also constructive and inspiring meetings with beneficiaries of the Polish Aid Development projects – Ms Janet Rangou,President of the University of the Western Pacific, and Sister Jadwiga Faliszek, a Polish missionary from the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, who is responsible for coordinating and supervising health centres and hospitals across the country.

Surely, lots of food for thought how Poland and PNG can enhance bilateral relations and mutual cooperation.

More info on 2026 Polish Development projects in PNG soon!

Big thanks to Polish Honorary Consul in PNG Jan Czuba for putting such an outstanding programme!

Papua New Guinea offers enormous trade and investment potential for European businesses. To explore opportunities for Polish companies, the MFA Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel and Deputy Head of Mission from the Polish Embassy in Canberra Mr Marcin Kawałowski took part in the EU-PNG Business Forum in Port Moresby earlier this week.

Mining, digital connectivity and agriculture issues were clearly identified as the most perspective areas for joint projects and initiatives. Key message from the PNG Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs was: we can do much more together!

Great to interact and exchange experiences with our PNG partners from the government and businesses, including from the PNG Investment Promotion Authority.

Big thanks to the EU Ambassador Erika Hasnosz and the whole EU Delegation Team in Port Moresby their outstanding efforts.

Truly, Team Europe in practice.

On the eve of the anniversary of 4 June – the first semi-free elections in Poland in 1989 and a pivotal moment in the country's democratic transformation – we were delighted to host a screening of "Godspeed Los Polacos", an award-winning documentary produced by Sonia Szczesna and directed by Adam Nawrot.
The event was proudly organized by the Embassy of Poland and the Embassy of Peru in Australia.

Our guests had an opportunity to enjoy the documentary demonstrating the fascinating and almost unbelievable story of the Canoandes ’79 expedition – an extraordinary kayaking journey undertaken by a group of Polish students across South America.

The film follows their two-year adventure, culminating in the record-breaking first descent of the world's deepest canyon, Colca Canyon in Peru. The American magazine Paddler ranked the expedition among the most significant exploratory achievements of the 20th century, and in 1984 it was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

The film also reveals how the kayakers later found themselves in the crosshairs of the Soviet authorities after using their newfound fame to support the struggle for democracy in Central and Eastern Europe.

In addition to the screening, our audience had the opportunity to watch a video message from Professor Jan Lencznarowicz of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, who shared insights into Polish–Australian relations at the time. We also received special greetings from the film's director, Adam Nawrot, and from one of the expedition participants, Piotr Chmieliński, who holds two Guinness World Records, including being the first person to traverse Peru's Colca Canyon and the first to navigate the entire Amazon River.

Following the screening, guests enjoyed a selection of Polish and Peruvian delicacies, providing a wonderful opportunity to continue the conversation and celebrate the cultural ties between our two countries.

We were thrilled to welcome a full house for this special event. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inspiring evening of film, history, adventure, and reflection on the values of freedom, courage, and international friendship.

Celebrating Children's Day (Dzień Dziecka) through the joy of reading! ✨📚

Thanks to the initiative of Mrs Ewelina Ellsmore and the Liverpool Polish Saturday School/Australia the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra joined the nationwide “All of Poland Reads to Children/Cała Polska czyta dzieciom” campaign on Polish Children's Day on 1 June.

During a special webinar organized in cooperation with the Foundation "ABCXXI - Cała Polska czyta dzieciom", parents, teachers, educators, and, of course, children came together to discuss the important role of books in the lives of young people and the value of reading in the Polish language.

Reading not only inspires imagination and creativity but also helps children stay connected to their language, culture, and heritage.❤️📖🇵🇱

Many thanks to Mrs Ewelina Ellsmore and Liverpool Polish Saturday School/Australia for this amazing initiative!

“Poland. Mission Confidence” is a story about Poland built on authenticity and the experience of people who, every day, co-create its image around the world. 🇵🇱

🎬 The film was made for the Robert Dobrzycki Foundation and brought together representatives of business, diplomacy, new technologies and media. Yet it is not institutions that matter most here, but the stories and perspectives of people who present a modern, credible face of Poland.

It is a country that attracts through quality of life, safety, culture and dynamic growth. But above all, it is a country of people – their work, values, and everyday actions that together form a coherent image of a Poland that is competent, open, and confident.
