The Goethe-Institut Australien's Melbourne branch has recently moved to a new location at 📍341 George Street in Fitzroy – right in the heart of ’s oldest suburb, with its vibrant mix of street art, independent creative culture and Victorian-era architecture.

Deputy Director and Head of Language Matthias Jakuš welcomed Ambassador Beate Grzeski to the new premises for a great exchange on the Goethe Institut’s work and the promotion of German and in Australia. 🇩🇪🤝🇦🇺

From Dresden to the world: Europe is building the future of semiconductors 🇩🇪🇪🇺

Did you know that Europe’s largest semiconductor cluster is located in Saxony, Eastern Germany? Around Dresden, companies, suppliers and research institutions are working together to develop the chips that power tomorrow’s technologies. 🔬

A key example is Infineon Technologies AG new Smart Power Fab — a €5 billion (approx. AUD 8.2 billion) investment and one of Europe’s most advanced semiconductor facilities. 🏭 It will produce power semiconductors for electric mobility, renewable energy, data centres and modern industry.

As Europe strengthens its semiconductor resilience through the European Chips Act, Germany is playing a central role in building secure and innovative supply chains. 🇪🇺

A stronger semiconductor ecosystem in Europe means new opportunities for global partners — including partners like Australia. 🇦🇺🤝🇩🇪

Supporting the next generation in diplomacy! 🇩🇪🇦🇺

Last week we were delighted to open the Ambassador’s Residence to a group of students and young professionals taking part in the Australian Institute of International Affairs’ Embassy Circuit. As part of their day visiting several embassies across Canberra, Deputy Ambassador Holger Krämer was pleased to welcome them and share insights on topics ranging from energy policy and EU integration to life as a diplomat. 💼

🇩🇪📚 Investing in better classrooms in Lae! 🇵🇬

We are delighted to support much-needed renovations at Amba Demonstration Primary School in Lae, Papua New Guinea, through the German Embassy’s Small Grants Programme.

With the funding agreement now signed, work can begin to improve the school’s classrooms and create a safer and more effective learning environment for its students. 🏫✨

Pictured after the signing are Mr Oswald Jimmy Iwong, Senior Subject Master of Lower Primary; Mr John Wakang Maliaki, Head Teacher of Amba Demonstration Primary School; and Mr Brenton Kanowski, Australian Consul-General in Lae, who supported the school’s funding application.
