It was a pleasure to welcome David Smith MP to Havelock House and share firsthand insight into our work across the ACT.

We had valuable conversations about housing and homelessness, the challenges facing our community, and the importance of safe, secure housing, ongoing support and long-term solutions. We also discussed the importance of collaboration across all levels of government to address homelessness.

It was encouraging to hear the Federal Government’s support for the work happening across the ACT homelessness sector.

Thank you, David, for taking the time to visit, listen to the challenges facing our sector and learn more about how we support our community.

Every Wednesday, the Orange Sky Australia van (Frosty) pulls into Havelock. 🧺

And every Wednesday, it brings:
▪️Free washing and drying
▪️A friendly face and a good chat

Small things. Big difference. Clean clothes and a shower can restore a sense of dignity that is easy to take for granted.

Thank you to the Orange Sky team and volunteers for showing up, week after week, without fail.

We were pleased to welcome Alicia Payne MP back to Havelock for a conversation about social housing and the future of housing in Canberra.

Along with a walk around Havelock House, we discussed Havelock’s role in responding to housing needs and the future redevelopment potential of 85 Northbourne Avenue to support better housing outcomes for our community.

We appreciated the opportunity to share our perspective and discuss how we can continue working towards a future where more Canberrans have access to safe, secure and affordable housing.

Anti-Poverty Week is underway, running through to 17 October.

Poverty rarely arrives on its own. It shows up alongside housing stress, and once housing becomes unaffordable, everything else gets harder:

🥫 Food security
👨‍⚕️ Access to healthcare
🏫 Stability for kids at school
🌳 The ability to plan more than a week ahead

Safe, affordable housing is not just shelter, it is the foundation that helps people climb out of poverty for good.

This week, we stand with everyone across Canberra doing this work.

Where did you sleep last night? For most of us, that question barely registers.

Saturday marked World Homeless Day, and for too many Canberrans, a safe place to sleep is still not a given.

Since 2015, Havelock Housing has supported more than 2,000 people. Today, we provide over 400 active tenancies across the ACT. But the need has not gone away, and neither has our commitment.

No one should die from homelessness.

Behind the scenes with WIN News Canberra 🎥

Last week, our team was in front of the cameras for an interview about homelessness in Canberra, ahead of World Homelessness Day on 10 October and Anti-Poverty Week from 11 October.

Days like these matter because they shine a light on an issue that is too often hidden. Homelessness and poverty are closely linked, and both are felt right here in our city.

Thank you to WIN News for helping share these stories with the Canberra community.

Ahead of World Mental Health Day tomorrow, our tenants came together for an afternoon of calm 🌿

We hosted an event filled with mindfulness activities, breathing exercises and relaxation strategies. We also shared positive statements and words of wisdom, because sometimes a kind sentence is exactly what someone needs to hear.

Looking after your mental health does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with slowing down, taking a breath and spending time with people who care.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.

September's tenant of the month is Zoe 🎉

Zoe is a strong advocate for affordable and accessible housing, particularly for students and residents of the Canberra Student Housing Co-operative. They speak up on the issues that matter, openly and often, and shows a genuine commitment to supporting those around them. Their willingness to engage with Havelock and Zoe's ongoing support of the Co-op has made a meaningful difference to our community.

The Havelock team thanks Zoe for their passion, generosity and commitment to making sure the voices of residents are heard.
