Preserved across rock walls in the Kimberly for generations, Wandjina rock art carries stories, culture and knowledge that continue to be shared today.

In much the same way, coins are also lasting storytellers – preserving moments, histories and identities in metal for future generations to discover.

What actually goes into designing a coin? 🤔

We sat down with Adam Ball, coin designer at the Royal Australian Mint, to talk about the creative process behind designing Australian currency, the difference between regular design work and creating money, and the designs he’s most proud of throughout his career.

A fascinating insight into the artistry, detail, and responsibility behind the coins we use and collect every day.

❗ 2026 50c ‘C’ Privy Mark Uncirculated Coin is no longer available from the Mint's Contact Centre or Mint Shop.
New Coin Release

The Royal Australian Mint is issuing a limited-edition coin that pays tribute to this historic milestone as well as the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.

We take this time to also remember the beginning of her reign, that would become the longest in British history. Seventy-three years later, its significance remains undiminished and her dedication will not be forgotten.

Tonight, the Mint will shine yellow for National Road Safety Week.

This week serves as a powerful reminder that every decision on the road matters. It highlights the importance of safe behaviours for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike, and encourages us all to look out for one another.

We light up in memory of lives impacted by road trauma, and in support of ongoing efforts to make our roads safer for everyone — every trip, every time.
