This week, the Embassy had the pleasure of sharing a special “Chile Morning” with nearly 200 members of the Women’s International Club of Canberra (WIC), bringing together women from Canberra’s diverse international community.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to showcase Chile’s culture, traditions and identity. Ambassador Beatriz de la Fuente gave a presentation about our country, highlighting its history, landscapes, people and cultural diversity, and sharing with the audience some of what makes Chile unique.

Guests were also invited to discover Chile through its gastronomy, with traditional empanadas, sopaipillas, pebre, Chilean wine and pisco sour.

The programme also featured an exhibition by Chilean artist Guillermo Muñoz, whose work added a special artistic dimension to the occasion, as well as a vibrant cueca performance by Baila Chile, bringing Chile’s traditional music and national dance to the celebration.

We are very grateful to the Women’s International Club of Canberra for inviting us to share Chile with its members and for their warm welcome. Our special thanks go to Barbara and Patricia Reeve for their generous support and for helping us organise this wonderful gathering.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Baila Chile, Guillermo Muñoz and everyone who contributed to making this celebration possible.

Encounters like this are a meaningful way of building bridges between cultures, strengthening connections within Canberra’s international community, and sharing Chile’s rich cultural heritage with friends from around the world.

Thank you to WIC and to all the wonderful women who joined us for a Chile Morning!

Today we concluded a productive visit to Canberra by Chilean astronomers Claudia Lagos and Manuel Aravena, as part of the PAEE (Programme of Specific Activities Abroad), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, to strengthen scientific cooperation between Chile and Australia.

During their visit, the delegation met with leading Australian institutions, including the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), CSIRO, Astronomy Australia Limited (AAL), the Australian Astronomical Society (AAS), the National Committee for Astronomy (NCA), the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the Department of Education, and the Australian National University (ANU), exploring new opportunities for scientific collaboration, including Dual PhD programmes.

The programme also included a lecture for astronomers and a tour of the laboratories and facilities at Mount Stromlo Observatory, as well as a reception at the Residence of Chile featuring a presentation on Chile’s strong capabilities in astronomy, attended by Australian government representatives, members of the diplomatic corps and the academic community.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Chile’s scientific and astronomical capabilities and explore new avenues for cooperation, contributing to the continued strengthening of the strategic partnership between Chile and Australia.
