🔎 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁: 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 + 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 now published.
Operation Pentecost looked at the 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘄‑𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 by an AFP employee with a family member involved in criminal activity.
📘 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:
✅ need for strong organisational controls around sensitive operational information
✅ personal relationships with criminals exacerbate corruption risk — they must be disclosed and managed

The National Anti-Corruption Commission investigates conduct that is serious or systemic. This updated guideline explains how we approach that threshold.

🌩️ ‘𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀’ relates to the scale, impact or gravity of the conduct. It means significant, severe or grave.
📈 ‘𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰’ relates to patterns of behaviour or issues embedded in processes or organisations. Its hallmark is multiple instances.

📘 The guideline includes 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 and 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 to help people understand the types of matters that may fall within the NACC’s jurisdiction.

Operation Young investigated the disclosure of sensitive information by an Australian Border Force officer to an associate with business links to to***co distribution.

⚠️ The Commission found that the ABF officer 𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 accessed through their role, to benefit his associate.
