More than 10 years ago, The University of Western Australia researchers found a concerning drop in WA kids’ core movement skills, so they created KIDDO — a simple, engaging program that helps schools teach the fundamentals and set children up for active, healthy lives.

Healthway backed it early and continued to be a strong supporter of the KIDDO program.

Here’s KIDDO in action at a WA primary school, where teachers are seeing the impact firsthand.

🎭 School holidays should be a time to rest, recharge and do what you love.

But for many young people living regionally, opportunities to explore creativity can be limited.

That’s why Healthway and Black Swan State Theatre Company have partnered to deliver drama workshops in Port Hedland, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Albany. Helping young people build confidence, connect with peers and explore storytelling through hands on drama.

This weekend, Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community (La Grange) came alive with a splash! Royal Life Saving Society WA hosted a celebration at the local pool, bringing everyone together for a swim, a yarn and enjoy some healthy tucker. 💙🏊‍♂️

Supported by Healthway, Bidyadanga is one of 30 regional and remote communities taking part in Royal Life Saving WA’s Swim for Fruit program. The program helps children build confidence in the water, learn vital water safety skills and enjoy fruit and vegetables – all while having fun🍉🥕🥝

Yesterday was a special morning meeting the new cohort of teachers championing the Creative Schools program in WA this year. 💛

In partnership with FORM, Healthway is supporting ten more schools to join the Creative Schools program in 2026. 🙌

By pairing teachers with creative practitioners, the program brings learning to life through art, storytelling, design and collaboration, while supporting students’ social and emotional wellbeing and strengthening their sense of identity and belonging.

Thank you to Preventative Health Minister Sabine Winton MLA for joining us yesterday to meet the teachers and educators leading this change across WA schools.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility.

Many trans and gender-diverse young people face higher risks to their mental health and can experience challenges at home or in their relationships.

Through a Healthway funded research grant, A/Prof Yael Perry and the team at The Kids Research Institute Australia have been working to better understand these experiences and help young people and their families feel more supported.

Their research led to Transforming Families — a free online resource for parents and carers of trans and gender diverse children and young people.

It offers evidence based information, practical tools and clear pathways to support.

🎨 Let’s spark real conversations about va**ng through the power of the arts.

Healthway’s Arts Against Va**ng is a targeted grant initiative that helps people understand the real impacts of va**ng and navigate misinformation.

Arts led approaches create powerful opportunities for learning, and we’re looking for bold, creative projects that raise awareness about the harms of va**ng.

Arts organisations, community groups and local governments, even if your idea is only partially formed = let’s talk. 👉https://www.healthway.wa.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/HWArtsAgainstVa**ng.pdf

From the Wheatbelt to the metro courts, students came together this month for WA’s biggest schools tennis celebration, the Tennis West Schools Classic Cup. 🎾

In partnership with Tennis West, Healthway supported 17 country events and 8 metro tournaments, creating opportunities for young people to connect, compete and get active.

Across the state, students not only enjoyed the game — they also learned how to fuel their bodies for sport through Fuel to Go & Play .

Well done to everyone involved!

Australians lose billions to gambling every year.

Healthway took to the streets of Perth to ask one simple question: do you know how much Australians lose to betting and pokies every second? The answer surprised everyone.

It’s been 1,000 days since the Murphy Report into the impacts of online gambling was handed to the Federal Government and the recommendations remain unimplemented.

We know that WA fares better than other states — but we can do more.

Stronger gambling laws would better protect our kids and
communities by:
✅ removing gambling from venues that serve alcohol
✅ keeping pokies out of our communities
✅ enforcing mandatory maximum loss limits.

When we address gambling product harm, we will create healthier, more resilient communities where families can thrive.
