When was the last time you saw a sky full of stars… properly?

No city glow.
No distractions.
Just sea air and the vastness of the sky above you…

Cape Otway is one of the best places along the coast to experience truly dark night skies — where the Milky Way stretches clear and bright above the Southern Ocean.

Stay the night in our Lightkeeper’s Cottage and step outside after dark — this is the kind of experience you can’t rush, and won’t forget.

✨ Limited availability remains for the Easter school holidays! - Book direct via Lightstation.com

Some of Cape Otway’s stories were never written down.

The Lightstation cemetery was used for Lightstation families, settlers, and shipwrecked sailors. The first known burial dates to 1863, the last to 1901.

But there are more buried here than we can name.

Records from the Station reveal that many—particularly children—were laid to rest without markers. We know of them through the Head Keeper’s logs and letters… but not all of their names survived.

In 1890, the cemetery was recorded as ‘5 chains by 5 chains, unfenced on account of bushfires’

It ceased as an official cemetery in 1983, but its stories remain.

Wander through the Lightstation Heritage Precinct and discover some of the stories held within this place. Join one of our history talks running throughout the day 🗝️
