Well, it's official.
The VEC has published the results of the Bass Coast Shire Local Government Elections.
Congratulations to Michael Whelan, David Rooks and Ronnie Bauer for becoming the successful Island Ward Councillors!
I want to thank everyone who supported me and my campaign, everyone who reached out to ask questions, and everyone who spread the word. I want to thank in particular Phyllis Papps, for being an outstanding mentor, motivator and friend, and for providing invaluable assistance. Greg Meade for his support and wisdom. John Nathan, for his stunning artwork on my campaign literature, and for spreading the word and letter dropping in Cowes. Leeroy and Michaela for spreading the word and letter dropping. Everyone at The Lazy Wave for their kind words and support and for letting me put a poster in the window, as well as all the other businesses who offered words of encouragement. Bob for his friendship and wisdom, and for providing perspective. And a huge thank you to my whole family - my dad, Gareth, my sister Juanita, my brothers, Jim and Colin and my grandma - for their love, support, time and effort in helping me during this time.
We ran a great campaign. However, the community has voted, and it's time to move on.
Congratulations again to the incoming Councillors, Michael, Ronnie and David, as well as Brett Tessari, Leticia Laing, Les Larke, Bruce Kent, Rochelle Halstead and Clare Le Serve, the other successful candidates, and good luck.
Stay safe everyone, till next time.

Bass Coast Shire Council election results 2020

22/10/2020

G'day everyone!
Remember: your ballots are due TODAY! Make sure you've filled out your ballot by numbering every box. Also keep in mind that any comment on a ballot--even if all the boxes have been numbered, and it is an otherwise legitimate vote--will mean that your vote will not be counted.
Make sure that your vote means something, by voting for a candidate with real, achievable Policy.
Vote 1 Mikhaela Barlow for Island Ward 2020.
Stay safe everyone, and make sure you take that trip down to the Post Office if you haven't already!

I posted my ballot today!
Make sure you do too before 12noon on Friday! Make sure your vote counts, by voting for the only candidate with an actual Policy Suite, rather than thought bubbles, and who takes seriously the role of Councillor, rather than considering it a hobby to do in retirement, now that they’ve finally made the sea change.
Please Vote 1 Mikhaela Barlow, and put first the Agenda for our economy, environment and lifestyle that our Island and Bass Coast sorely needs.

Hello everyones! Romulus here!
I’ve taken over Mum’s social media because she hasn’t been well today. Her horrible, mean tooth is hurting, and it’s causing seizures! But, as you can see in the video, I’m letting her know before she has one, waiting for her to come out of it, and making sure she’s okay when it’s over with lots and lots of kisses! Unfortunately, Grandad isn’t the greatest cameraman, but I think we both did great with such short notice, and we both deserve treats!
Don’t worry, guys, I’m on it! Mum will be back at work and ready to go by tomorrow!
Romulus out!

Hey everyone!
You should have received your ballot pack by now—if you haven’t, the VEC’s contact number is: 1300 108 284, so give them a ring.
Remember to post your ballot by the 23rd of October, and make sure ALL the boxes are numbered in order of your preference.
I hope that you will consider all the Policies that each candidate is putting forward, and make sure that they actually have an idea on how to deliver them, and then make your decision.
I believe I have the right Policies for our Shire, and I know how to deliver them.
Please Vote 1 Mikhaela Barlow so that I can, with the help of my colleagues, help our economy recover and thrive, protect our environment and wildlife, and give opportunities to our wonderful artists to get the recognition they deserve.

Hey everyone!
I've been getting some emails recently about beurocracy in Bass Coast, and I thought it worth sharing my response. Feel free to Share if you think so as well.
Unfortunately I do not have subtitle on this one, but I will be updating with a produced version ASAP.
Have a greay day everyone! Stay safe.

Coming into Cowes now at the new Back Beach Road roundabout.
This entire process has been lacking in traffic management, much like the RRV works in Cape Woolamai, and today is no different. With changed traffic rules as of, I believe, today, residents are being expected to invent their own traffic rules with barely any management.
This is not a Council development, however Councillors should be contacting RRV and demanding better traffic management.
This is unacceptable and, if elected, I will be demanding better treatment of residents in future RRV developments.

Look for the Campaign Staff Bike, and see you soon!
Stay safe everyone.

Hey everyone!
So here’s the new Campaign Staff Car! You might see it—or the A-Frames—out and about over the next couple of weeks. If you do, feel free to come say hi!
This is an e-cargo bike. It can hold 3 kids in the box, with five point harnesses and a seat for them. However, the owner of this bike uses it to do the weekly shopping and has completely replaced a car.
This is something that Council needs to look into, not just electric cars.
But it’s just an idea.
Anyways, have a great day everyone, stay safe and I’ll see you soon.

Hey everybody!
So, it's been an eventful day, to say the least.
Firstly, and amazingly, MY BIKE IS BACK! Woohoo!
It was leaning against the tree on the nature-strip next door. I guess whoever took it either had a change of heart, or, I suspect, decided an e-bike was no good without a battery, and that the word was out and they probably weren't going to get away with it.
Fingerprints have been taken, and I will leave it in the Victoria Police's capable hands. I'm just so relieved to have my bike back!
In other news! The Phillip Island Business Network hosted a Meet-the-Candidates night, where each candidate was given four minutes to introduce themselves and answer five select questions. True to form, I exceeded my speaking time so was not able to completely answer all of the questions in the time answered, however, my statement is available at my website: https://www.blueskyfuturesresearch.com/community-group-questions-statement
However, I did get to answer some great questions from the PIBN audience. Hopefully this was recorded and becomes available for me to share with you all.
Speaking of: please feel free to share this around if you agree with me and my Policies. The only way I can get these Policies through, and help our businesses recover from the Pandemic is if I have YOUR HELP.
Anyways... what a great day! :D I got to have a chat with the community from the comfort of my own house and got my bike back! Onwards and upwards, everybody!
Stay safe and have a great night everyone.
