While there’s plenty of excitement building around the Dalyellup Library & Youth Hub, Capel Library reminded us this week that it’s still very much the heart of our community 💛

Last night, we were thrilled to host over 20 attendees for an intimate, and very entertaining evening with WA authors Anthea Hodgson and Rachael Johns.

From the goldfields of Western Australia to stories of resilience, friendship and the lives of women often overlooked by history, Anthea shared insights into her latest novel 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝐿𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑉𝑖𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑒, with plenty of laughs along the way.

Just as special was the connection between Anthea and Rachael, whose genuine friendship and easy conversation made the night feel warm, relaxed and full of heart. A beautiful reminder that no matter the space, our libraries are all about connection, conversation and great stories.

Congratulations to two of our Shire of Capel Local History - Ron Maidment Archives amazing volunteers who were nominated for the South West Volunteer of the Year Awards 2026. Eric McAndrew (the maps guy) who has been with us for 9 years and Josie Vigors our amazing transcriber of oral histories. Our volunteers are the backbone of the Ron Maidment Archives, donating their time and efforts with great passion. We appreciate you so much! 🥰

Nominees for Volunteer of the Year 2026, sponsored by Albemarle.

An overwhelming 21 people were nominated for the South West Volunteer of the Year award - kindly sponsored by Albemarle - which will be presented tomorrow during National Volunteer Week.
This longstanding award has been presented since 2002 and each year we are inundated with nominees, proving what wonderful volunteers we have in our region who so willingly give their time and skills for the betterment of the community.
Volunteering helps create meaningful relationships and through that builds inclusive, thriving communities, enriching the lives of those who give their time and those who benefit from it.
