Pick the famous artwork 🎨

One has mysterious proportions, unusual perspective, and leaves you wondering what the artist was thinking.

The other was painted by Leonardo da Vinci.

No offense, Leo, but the competition was fierce.

As part of our Preschool French Day celebrations, families will be invited to take a special trip to the "Louvre" to admire and purchase beautiful artworks the children have created. Families are invited to visit and purchase their child's masterpiece for a donation of $5 or more!!! per artwork (more information about payment to come).

This fun experience encourages the children to take pride in their creativity while experiencing a little piece of French culture. We look forward to sharing this special day with you and celebrating the children's artistic talents!

Today UNICEF launches the Global Day of Parents under the theme “Together for Parents.”

We recognise the important role parents and caregivers play in nurturing and supporting children’s learning, wellbeing and development. It’s not always easy, fun or Rosey; this parenting gig! We all want to do the job well and it can be challenging…. but it’s also the best job in the world wouldn’t you agree?

We acknowledge the fantastic contributions families make every day here at preschool. We are celebrating our collaboration with our wonderful parents.

Thank you for being your child’s my first teachers, best friends, and forever inspiration. They love you for it, and so do we.

National Reconciliation Week takes place from May 27th to June 3rd each year, commemorating two major milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey: the 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision. The 2026 theme is "All In," serving as a call for all Australians to commit to reconciliation every single day.

Here at MCHCPS the children have reflected on what we do to acknowledge our First Nations people. After learning about the theme 'All In' the children decided that "we should be kind to everybody"-Lainey and "everybody should be included"-Cohen, to signify this each child signed their names next to their fingerprint on the program.

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual Australian campaign where millions of children, parents, and educators in schools, libraries, and homes read the exact same picture book at the exact same time. Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), it aims to promote literacy and a love of reading. Today the children listened to Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake Minton.

This annual event highlights the importance of shared reading, promotes childhood literacy, and celebrates talented Australian authors and illustrators.

The children explore texts from a range of different perspectives and begin to analyse the meanings. They actively use, engage with and share the enjoyment of language and texts in a range of ways (LO-5.2). Check out the children's amazing Luna Roo Artworks 👇

Today we had a visit from Jon, Phil and Dave from NSW Fire and Rescue. In a fire emergency they taught us to call 000, STOP, COVER, DROP and ROLL and GET DOWN LOW and GO GO GO. Having Fire Rescue visit preschool is such a valuable experience for children.

It gives children the opportunity to meet firefighters in a safe, fun, and positive environment while learning important fire safety messages in a way they can understand. Seeing the fire truck, equipment, and uniforms up close helps remove fear and builds confidence if they ever encounter an emergency situation.

These visits also teach children simple but life-saving lessons — like recognising smoke alarms, knowing how to respond in an emergency, and understanding the role firefighters play in helping the community. 🚒

Bees

World Bee Day is on Wednesday, 20th May and celebrates the role that bees and other pollinators play in helping keep people and the planet healthy. Bees are vital as pollinators for food security, biodiversity and ecosystems health.

At preschool we have taken the message from an Early Childhood perspective. The children learnt about bees, discussed bees, baked honey cakes and bees influenced our art works. We extended this asking; Let’s think about BEEcoming, what kind of person do you wish to BEE? 🐝 Check out our daily program to see the children's answers.

Families Week is Australia’s national celebration of families. Led by Families Australia, it runs annually every May to align with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15th May.

The week brings communities together through events, activities and celebrations that recognise the vital role families play in Australian life.

The children created paper dolls and representational artworks of their families to celebrate, and we have asked for feedback from our families this week about the support we give to our families and children. If you would like to contribute, please add a comment on this post or write your feedback on our floor book. 💛

MEDIA ALERT ⚡ Community preschool teachers represented by the IEU rallied this morning in Sydney, Lismore and Coffs Harbour, calling on the NSW government to fund fair pay rises.
Hundreds of early childhood teachers and educators, parents, children and supporters, dressed in bright pink, came together in the lead-up to the NSW government delivering its budget in June.
“There is a systemic, gender-based undervaluation of this highly feminised workforce,” IEUA NSW/ACT Acting Secretary David Towson said. “To start addressing this, community preschool staff need a 15% pay rise”.

What a night to remember! Our preschool disco was a sparkling success, filled with laughter, music, face painting, hairstyling, delicious food, glow products and of course plenty of energetic dance moves. The room lit up with colourful lights as children showed off their best spins, jumps, and twirls, all while enjoying their favourite tunes.

A big thank you to our management committee, our educators and everyone who helped make the event so special. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
